A $499 MacBook Neo with the brains of a couple-year-old iPhone can run Xcode, Photoshop, Blender, Terminal, and pretty much everything else you can think of, yet your $3,200 iPad Pro, with a desktop-class chip, cannot 😑

What are we doing here?

I dry brined a huge pork butt last night and today I’m slow roasting it for almost 10 hours.

The house smells like heaven.

I credit these comments from @karaswisher for the change

Later in the draft, “expert review” offered up a piece of advice from Kara Swisher — the legendary Silicon Valley journalist and (as it so happens) my former landlord. I shared with her a screenshot of her “advice,” which was designed to be as deceptive as possible: her name appears in blue next to the text, with no suggestion that it is a paid hallucination from Grammarly. The “advice” was nothing like the blunt, clear-eyed, and hilarious suggestions the real Swisher often gives me. Instead, it suggested that we insert a narrative digression of dubious value. Grammarly told me the advice had been “inspired” by Swisher’s podcast. I asked Swisher what she made of her unpaid stand-in, and what she might say to the executives at Grammarly. She responded with characteristic restraint.“You rapacious information and identity thieves better get ready for me to go full McConaughey on you,” Swisher told me over text. “Also, you suck.”

My favorite thing about ads like this is that they feel super nostalgic not just for the style but for the “$300 pre-installed software” implication.

If you saw this today, your first thought would probably be that the manufacturer was *paid* $300 to install some software on it.

A vintage advertisement for a Packard Bell 486SX computer, featuring specifications such as 2MB RAM, an 85MB hard drive, and a price of $877.94. The image includes a monitor, along with a banner highlighting $300 pre-installed software

RE: zirk.us/@Doomscroll/1161993627

Man, this takes me back. I remember a ton of the mobile devs on Twitter doing once a week where someone would be interviewed about their work. It was easier to do real time interviews back then when everything was chronological, so you knew folks were reading in the order intended.

It never dawned on me that Mastodon enables this ability again. It’s practically a super power to even be able to do this. We should be doing these (and other real time stuff) all the time!

Elijah Wood says he doesn't want anyone else to play Frodo while he is 'alive and able'

While grinning, he said there is a 'good chance' he'll return for 'The Hunt for Gollum'

"It hasn’t been officially announced, but ... Ian McKellen sort've let the cat outta the bag"

A young man with dark hair is sitting with his hands on his face, looking distressed. He is wearing a red sports outfit with logos, likely representing a racing team. The text overlay questions if he is feeling depressed at Ferrari.

Put another way, that’s 50x the size of Saruman’s army at Helm’s Deep!

I had the opportunity to stop by Alex Pretti’s memorial and pay my respects today. Nurses have been leaving stethoscopes. It hurt my heart.

Friendly reminder that ICE hasn’t left Minnesota.

The sidewalk at the memorial. Various signs are propped up but the focus is a large banner that says “rest in power Alex. Any righteous person would have done the same”Flowers and tokens left underneath a photo of AlexCountless stethoscopes hang from a street lamp.
