New fundamental #MORL theory paper by our PhD student Willem RΓΆpke: "Distributional Multi-Objective Decision Making" together with our awesome colleagues from the University of Galway to appear at #ijcai . ArXiv version forthcoming.

At the City of Amsterdam, we've been using #AI to assess, analyse, and hopefully improve pedestrian #accessibility. My colleagues Iva Gornishka and Shayla Jansen explain how we've been doing so so far, and what our current interns from the Universiteit van Amsterdam and Universiteit Maastricht - Andrea Lombardo, Alisa Todorova, and Aditi Mishra - are currently working on.

@DavidKnuffke @edutooters @ehenning @randy as a proud "citizen of Scienceland" I am also very aware that not all of our residents obey its rules though ;-)

@ehenning @randy @edutooters Maybe, but the writing of ChatGPT3 isn't actually worse than that of an unmotivated undergrad forcing themself to write something for an assignment anyway... Next will be an AI that can learn to adopt a specific writing style (including stylistic and other errors) from example fragments. It seems easy enough - we already have AI that can imitate painter's styles. Now if you let this AI write in "your" style, and you're not a great writer to begin with...who can tell?

I've waited a few days to post this about the #mastodonmigration. Here is the evolution of the new accounts in #mastodon after the events in the last week. After each new ban/suspension in the #bluebird we see a spike in new accounts in #mastodon. But recent growth seems to be more steady at around 50k per day. Since the #bluebird purchase by Musk, more than 3 million new accounts were created in #mastodon.

The plot shows the time series of the new accounts in mastodon per day. Before the purchase of Twitter by Musk the daily new accounts in Mastodon were around 4k per day. After the purchase and after every ban/suspension/layoff in Twitter we see an spike in the number of new accounts. Right now it seems that the number of new accounts per day is around 50k. We also see some (smaller) spikers in the number of daily new accounts after the Journalist's account suspension on Dec 15th and the Banning of other social media links on Dec 18th. But those are much smaller than the spike after Musk's Twitter 2.0 ultimatum on Nov 17th.

@adanvers @harcel @erinnacland @academicchatter well but obtaining funding is a /hell/ of a lot of work too. So even though I think every author should indeed do some work on the paper (in addition to writing the grant proposal), having made it possible to do the work, is quite a bit of work too. And let's not forget the that the research proposal also typically contains the initial ideas and theoretical starting points where the research begins; so "the PI did nothing" isn't entirely fair.

@andreasvc @gronlp welcome to mastodon!

@projecteducationin @KaiserScience @academicchatter @edutooters

That's understandable. Good luck with this really important work! I'll follow your posts

@projecteducationin @KaiserScience @academicchatter @edutooters

Do you have some publications about this? I would be particularly interested in those pertaining to EU higher education.

2022-12-17

@erinnacland @academicchatter

Why not both? We have good tools for rapid dissemination: ArXiv, technical reports, etc. No need for journals, whose reputation would give a higher expected validity to unreviewed papers than deserved, to get into rapid publishing.

Hi crowd, mind if I source you? What are the coolest examples you know of (preferably #ai4good or AI for public space), of non-neural network #artificialinteligence #AI ? I'm putting together a slide deck with an overview of AI in general, to showcase that there is more to AI than deep learning and big data. And great examples would be very welcome!

@ai4good i would love to be able to follow all that's going on in RL... I have trouble keeping up with several subfields of RL even...

Hi all, a couple of weeks ago I wrote this blogpost on the advantages of #multi-objective #AI : specifically I think it opens up possibilities to better maintain, explain, and monitor AI. As such I think it's a contribution to #responsibleAI :

If you like this post (or don't and are looking for an article to bash-cite πŸ₯²), here's our practical guide to multi-objective #RL and #planning for further reading:

@elisevanderpol thank you! 😊 Interesting platform this is! Any tips?

Hello world πŸ–– moving in from the blue bird today and looking forward to meeting you all (again) here! I'm an AI researcher at the City of Amsterdam and the VUB AI lab. I've done a lot of multi-objective RL and planning, but my research interest are very broad. I mainly want to build AI to benefit people and to empower them. #hello #RL #AI #multiagentsystems #planning #γ‚ˆγ‚γ—γ
