This video will feature a ton of content, including:

1- Unity OpenXR project setup (a walkthrough required settings)
2- OVR Microgesture Event Source
3- OVR Microgesture Unity Event Wrapper (to listen to Microgesture events without any code - by using the inspector)
4- Microgesture with Locomotion setup and building a demo

Yesterday I met with such an interesting person at Meta, someone who helped built Project Orion & pretty much involved in deciding what was going to be possible from a hardware standpoint.

This is the type of thing I really love about my job today, there are many but working with very talented people is one of those.

It has been super hard to keep up with YouTube content while working at Meta, but today I am pushing myself a bit harder until I get a video out to the channel!

I feel like I just need to allocate time on my calendar and make it a habit again. Crazy thing is that the channel is still performing & generating a lot of views, but I miss the days where I was pushing 3-4 videos a week.

If youโ€™re building a game or app for #VR, this will be very helpful for GPU optimization in Unity!

๐Ÿ“Œ FFR vs ETFR

- FFR (Fixed Foveated Rendering), which renders at full resolution in the center of the screen (in the foveal region), and low resolution in the periphery.

- ETFR (Eye Tracked Foveated Rendering) the foveal region is moved around to match where youโ€™re looking using eye tracking.

โ„น๏ธ What are the benefits?

In short: you should see improvements in GPU utilization, but it can vary depending on your applicationโ€™s content.

ETFR offers greater GPU savings than FFR at all foveation levels by using a more aggressive foveation map.

Devs can balance performance and visual quality by adjusting the foveation level and other settings like MSAA and eye texture scale factor to suit their appโ€™s content.

๐Ÿ’กAssetGen 2.0 consist of 2 models: one to generate the 3D Mesh, & a second one to generate textures.

- Utilizes a single-stage 3D diffusion model for geometry estimation, leading to improved detail and fidelity compared to its predecessor, AssetGen 1.0.

New Microgestures YouTube video is taking a bit longer, mainly because I ended up creating few more use cases that I see devs heavily using with these gestures.

- How to set up and listen to Microgestures

Hereโ€™s a small example of how to setup Microgestures with Meta SDK v76.

1- Go to Player Settings > XR Plugin Management > Install it & Enable OpenXR (for Standalone & Android)

2- Under Player Settings > XR Plugin Management > OpenXR > Add the โ€œOculus Touch Controller Profileโ€

3- Import Meta XR Interaction SDK

4- Add a Camera Rig Building Block

5- Add a Grab Interaction Building Block (Remove the block if no needed)

6- Add a OVR Microgesture Event Source

7- Add a Micro Gesture Unity Event Wrapper (optional - you could bind to the event source gesture event from the previous step)

8- Test it on PC with Meta Link or Deploy it to your headset!
