Tired: The system didn't work the way we thought it does. But now we fixed it, so it works the way that we previously thought.
Wired: The system didn't work the way we thought it does. We need to update our understanding of how the system works.
There are many different sides to the "Dave Debate"
Should people named Dave exist? Should they have rights? Are they people at all?
I'm not anti-Dave, in fact I am a great supporter of Daves. I just think we need to ask some questions. But if you ask these questions people get so mad.
Shouldn't we at least have a sober reasonable discussion? What's wrong with that?
Today a student left an envelope on my desk with a thank you note and a $15 gift certificate for a restaurant. Alas, it would be unethical for me to accept it as I am a state employee who already gets compensated for doing my job. I took it to the legal office where our ethics compliance officer dwells.
Clarence Thomas accepted a vacation worth more than I make in 10 years.
Fuck that guy.
It’s an illusion to think we can make any major progress in this country without getting corporate money out of politics. It is the root of all evil in Washington.
Some cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go.

What we're learning at Curvenote is that once you can get scientific articles into a machine-readable format, you can do ANYTHING with the display and layout
Here's how we're redesigning them using open-source #MySTMarkdown @curvenote:

This visual deep dive into one of the largest AI language datasets is nonstop fascinating, jaw-dropping, and troubling, and anyone who is remotely interested in how LLMs really work, their biases, or intellectual property should read it. https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/interactive/2023/ai-chatbot-learning/
You can now report a "transgender concern" on a Missouri government website. It would be a shame if it was filled to the brim with garbage submissions.

Design Fiction Daily makes Dré Labre is perhaps the most prolific Design Fictioneer, I love his witty takes and have posted a few.
Listen to him get into it on the Near Future Laboratory podcast: https://www.designfictiondaily.com/p/hear-me-out

This really worked! (The free method)
🤦🏿♂️ What type of lack of critical thinking does it take to go from gullibly believing that drug stores in SF were closing because of shoplifting, then seeing that was a lie (like we said), to believing that Whole Foods in SF is closing because of crime?
Y'all are not serious.
No one wants *to work* in San Francisco (but people are trying to force them to).
Everyone wants *to live* in San Francisco (but they can't afford it).
If you let young people live in your city they will buy ingredients for their avocado toast from you and use your pharmacies.
This brings me great joy.
NASA Administrator Bill Nelson, left, swears in Dr. Makenzie Lystrup as director of Goddard Space Flight Center.

Instead of a Bible, Dr. Lystrup's hand rests on a hardback copy of Carl Sagan's Pale Blue Dot.

@rbreich call me a radical lefty but I don't think billionaires should be allowed.
If you straddle the design/engineering divide (by profession or interest) this talk/essay from Julian Bleecker at #universityofmichigan casting the split as Imagination vs Structure might be a useful frame - quite in addition to the introduction of the #DesignFiction judo move that helps Structure "feel into" Imagination (and hopefully meld).

My daughter, who has had a degree in computer science for 25 years, posted this observation about ChatGPT on Facebook. It's the best description I've seen:
I just want to say that if I ever get on the Supreme Court I am going to be reasonable. I will not require you to ply me with private jets and yachts to private estates and exclusive famous resorts and $5k bottles of wine.
Business class (or even economy plus) to an AirBnB in Maui and six or seven boxes of those Cutwater Mai Tais would totally do the trick. Then I will TOTALLY stop deferring to Chevron. I will not defer to ANY gas stations.
I am a man of the people.
