I loved "The Secret Life of Albert Entwistle," by Matt Cain.

Nearing retirement, a British letter carrier sets out to find the love he lost as a teen, when homophobic parents forced him into the closet. In the process, flashbacks tell us all about his romance, and he finds friendship and kindness in unexpected places. Yes, there's a happy ending.

I've read it twice!

I know right? The 1 series BMWs like mine evolved in 2014 into the 2-series, which is still in production. No more 2-series convertibles, alas, since 2021. The 2ers and the current Z4 are the last survivors about which you could say "small BMW" without irony.

Design-wise, the mid-aughts E46 is a truly beautiful car. I owned a 2004 E46 convertible and rue the day we traded it in on a 2007 E90 335i sedan!

The glory days of owning 2 old BMW convertibles at the same time. My white E30 is parked in our Fort Lauderdale driveway next to the Orient Blue E46.

Do you think we subconsciously choose our new partner to be like a previous one?

I'm talking about cars, of course. I loved and fussed over the 1990 E30 325i convertible I bought on eBay in 2008, and owned for 13 years.

So it's no surprise that when I bought my current car, it was a lovely white low mile 2013 128i convertible. It's kind of the runt of the BMW litter, which makes me love it all the more.
The E30 spirit lives on.

My Alpine White II 1990 E30 BMW convertible, with indigo interior and top and aftermarket (but period-correct) basketweave wheels. It's sitting in the driveway of our then-home in Vallejo California. I specifically sought out an E30 when I bought it in 2008, the last generation of tall, narrow BMWs that still reflected the neue klasse design language best reflected in the legendary 2002. Over 13 years it got 3 new tops, 2 new interiors, and 30,000 miles of driving fun. Except for some minor bodywork, all the paint was still original. My new-to-me 2013 E88 128i convertible, bought with 73,000 miles on the odometer in January of this year. Seen from eye level from the front right passenger side, this last year of the Chris Bangle era 1-series, is also white, like the E30, although this is the current generation of the same color, Alpine White III. Alas, blue was not an available color for interior or top; this car has a tan interior and black fabric top (not cursed with the ponderous flanks used to shoehorn a retractable hardtop configuration onto its larger contemporary, the sad-looking E90 convertible.)

The 5-spoke wheels are the factory originals. The Bangle years were not good ones for BMW overall (I think his Z4 roadster is the ugliest BMW ever made) but this 1-series, too tall for its length, kinda stubby, is oddly endearing to me, like a goofy-looking beloved dog or cat.

And the glorious smoothness of a BMW inline 6 feels like a more powerful version of its ancestor that was in my wonderful E30.

Will U.S. producers benefit from the recent wine tariffs? Aside from the fact that input costs are likely to rise, export markets may also contract. Year over year, the export value for March dropped by 28%. The three main export markets for U.S. wine—Canada (-73%), the UK (-13%), and China (-83%)—all reported significant declines. Also, note Panama.

The #Fediverse is a truly wonderful and unique place

The server bills I pay each month are about 4x our home rent and it's mostly supported by people who barely have anything to spend

Sometimes people even apologize for not giving more, NEVER do that❤️

Meanwhile I also host a popular millionaire for example that never contributed, and while that's totally okay since it's pure donation

It does say something I think

You are the ones keeping this network alive, in engagement but also in support

Sunsets have been very beautiful around here lately. Just up the coast, this National Park Service web camera image shows off the sunset colors seen from the Kuchel Visitor Center in Redwood National and State Parks. Pinks, oranges, peaches, yellows, greys, and whites can be seen in the clouds, which stream across a blue sky. Pacific Ocean waves roll towards the coast in the center. The greens of the vegetation in the foreground mingle with the greys of the temporarily beached driftwood. Thanks to the Redwood Parks Conservancy for supporting these cameras.

As a GenX-er, I grew up with parents saying our computer games were a waste of time.

But anyone who've bought a little too much at IKEA knows the value of having played a lot of Tetris!
