@fractals Thanks. i know from reading Joe Coulombe's book, and talking with Doug Rauch, who worked there for 30 years (the last 14 as president) that the store works to be very directly connected to customers and suppliers, especially being at the mercies of the latter. I checked with other TJ branches, and the Fiber is gone everywhere. For now, anyway. As for the desert, like too many things, it interests me. But I've photographed deserts (mostly from above) far more than I've visited them.

Still new here. Also busy and traveling. How do I start following mastodon.social/@davewiner ? Do I have to be elsewhere to do that?

A reminder that @moonalice will speak tomorrow, 11am Pacific, at the Computer History Museum. Title: "Saving us from Big Tech: the Gen Z Solution" This is a salon, so conversation will follow. Attend in person or by zoom. Either way, register first here: events.iu.edu/ostromworkshop/e

@shawnp0wers @katherined @kyle @reality2cast And now I'm verified. Nice.

2022-11-12

I am getting schooled by @shawnp0wers @katherined @kyle on @reality2cast about how to use Mastodon. Like, just learned that on searls.com I can put the rel="me" tag in a link back to my handle here. Unless I misunderstood, which happens.

@dweinberger @dsc @Lynne

I am learning (on reality2cast.com, live) that this is where I write a reply, and to whom. This is one of those ropes.

2022-11-11

@leo Wow. True.

We (the Ostrom Workshop at Indiana University, plus me and my wife, both visiting scholars there) are putting on this salon at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, CA this coming Monday at 11am Pacific: events.iu.edu/ostromworkshop/e It's free, and online as well as in person. Registration is required for t he online side (it'll be zoomed). Sign up at that link. The speaker is Roger McNamee, former advisor to Mark Zuckerberg, and then the author of the bestseller, Zucked.

@leo That said, I love Mastodon, what it is, and what its possibilities might be. So I'm here. 🙂

2022-11-06

@leo fwiw, I follow >5000 entities (mostly human) on Twitter, and don't experience hell, I suppose mostly because I avoid politics there. Not that I think it's ideal. More that I'm pretty much of the same mind as David Weinberger (who probably has a handle here that I don't know) here:

2022-11-06

@glennf I know you! Good to see you here, wherever this is. I'm back on Mastodon after years off. Still finding my way around. (I was on mastodon.host, which appears to be gone.)

@RichardJActon @reality2cast @katherined Here is RMS' perhaps briefest take on "intellectual property": stallman.org/articles/ft-respo Still good and right, imho.

2021-03-30

I need a 5 minute workshop with somebody on how to make multiple Mastondons (Mastoes? Mastoda? Masti?) work.

2021-03-19

Thanks, all.

@0rlando @leo The developer is Harlan Hugh, and his biggest booster is an old friend of many here, Jerry Michalski. Here is his Brain: jerrysbrain.com/welcome Alas, The Brain and Harlan aren't right for FLOSS Weekly because Harlan, despite entreaties by both Jerry and I, has resolutely kept the source code closed. But both would be great for another TWiT show, I would hope.

Just dipping my virtual toe back into the Mastodon pool.
