I'm describing the current state of LLMs for a talk I'm giving soon.

Am I wrong?

Congratulations! You have a new intern!
Chad is really good at looking up things on the internet but often doesn't understand what it means. he will rarely (if ever) admit that he's wrong and will make something up rather than admit it. He is really good at looking like an expert to people who don't know anything about a subject, but anyone who does sees through him immediately. Because of this, management will want to promote him.

Cool upcoming video: deep dive into... scuba diving at Monterey Bay Aquarium, and how they incorporate 'crafting and innovation'

@ianb the distinction between “punishing a bad actor”and “preventing monopoly distortions of a market in the future” seems to really confuse them, eh

2025-04-26

@hober @skinnylatte i am here for “blumberjack.”

2025-04-22

@zombiecide Yeah, at some point there’s no amount of defensive precision that can prevent a bad faith actor from co-option and making hash of a phrase.

2025-04-20

@tillshadeisgone (I grew up in the religious right, where cultivated grievance is intense and pervasive, so I had to spend a lot of my life picking through those kinds of distinctions to make sense of anything; My assumption is that any statement of principle will be warped in bad faith, so it’s not just about this particular issue…)

2025-04-20

@tillshadeisgone i think the answer is “yes,” but as a matter of ethics and rhetoric we have to carefully articulate what we consider “oppression,” or the frame becomes a license for dominant groups to preserve their place with violence. I suppose that’s a separate, parallel discussion about the need for the populace to get more than buzzwords

@futurebird i’m imagining the future where this goes viral and dozens of people get into deadly brawls woth chimps

2025-04-10

@cliffle oh yeah, I’ve done the firmware dance with it before, just hadn’t revisited it with new firmware like you have for quite some time!

2025-04-10

@cliffle Woah, that was my first printer! It’s over st the makerspace now, but I’ll bet it would benefit from the update…

2025-04-02

@cferdinandi @zachleat intriguing! How straightforward is it to self-host outside of the vercel ecosystem? (i’ve got most of my stuff in docker containers on a coolify-managed server…)

2025-03-20

@glyph @jalefkowit sooooo having been called in as a consultant to help fix some 11th hour web infrastructure issues around the Model X launch, I can say that it… goes beyond the car stuff. Teams discovering new deadlines because Elon decided the date sounded good during a press conference, etc

ALL THIS TO SAY

stop parroting the talking points of the oppressor.

there is enough everything to feed, clothe, house, heal, educate, employ and even “start up” not just every human, but generations to come.

the problem are the .1% who don’t want that to happen.

those are the people who make money blocking universal health care and forcing us into insurance companies that are nothing but eugenics-as-a-service.

that’s why when CEOs get shot, nobody bats an eye.

the scarcity is false./ 🧵

@catch56 @jonny this is wild, it’s like someone invented bizarro-world anti-whole-language in an attempt to counterbalance that movement’s failures

@chx the wild part is the neither Joost nor Karim proposed a fork. They proposed a clearer governance model. Matt’s post is about as clear of a “fuck you, if I’m not in absolute power, it’s not wordpress” declaration as one can get
