Picard management tip: When a middle manager says one of his crew isn't fitting in, tell him to befriend the crewman and fix the problem.
Torn between "software is totally broken" and "somehow works great but only for evil".
That LLM you're beginning to trust? It's a captive demon, not a friendly partner. It is full of lies, and it will slip them in on you at random. Meanwhile, it's destroying the environment, while it works on destroying folx' means of employment.
Unfortunately they're more part of bringing us to Hunger Games than to peaceful creative post-scarcity.
I would love to be wrong.
Ficar de torcida de guerra é a coisa mais estúpida que pode ter
I feel like a lot of the protest advice I see is very good but it assumes you will get gassed, kettled, arrested or targeted for arrest later. the vast majority of people will hopefully go, wave a sign around, see their neighbors for a while, and then go home early. THE VAST MAJORITY. don't be scared.
@omgubuntu Brazil Government has had an Open Source initiative for some good 20 years now, it's great and it baffles me that more governments don't do it.
This is the 100 year anniversary of humans having an idea of what the heck the sun and all the stars actually are. If you had asked a leading astronomer in 1925 what the sun was, they would say that it's basically the same as Earth, but very hot.
In Cecilia Payne's doctoral thesis she was the first to say, from spectral data, that the sun was overwhelmingly made of hydrogen and helium.
It was later described as "the most brilliant PhD thesis ever written in astronomy".

"The bottom line from Apple’s research is stark: we’re not witnessing the birth of AI reasoning.
We’re seeing the limits of very expensive autocomplete that breaks when it matters most."
Damning proof from Apple researchers that the hype from big tech surrounding #AI is an expensive illusion.
«The Wikimedia Foundation, the nonprofit organization which hosts and develops Wikipedia, has paused an experiment that showed users AI-generated summaries at the top of articles after an overwhelmingly negative reaction from the Wikipedia editors community.»
It's nice to see places where community can help course correct!

JURASSIC PARK was released 32 years ago today. Also, Jurassic Park is a cautionary tale about how you compensate IT staff :P
One thing that I'd add to this analysis: https://blog.glyph.im/2025/06/i-think-im-done-thinking-about-genai-for-now.html#fnref:2:i-think-im-done-thinking-about-genai-for-now-2025-6 is that giving the appearance that this emerging technology is already ubiquitously intertwined with everything is a strategy. The success of AI as an industry depends on changing multiple contexts (legal, ethical, infrastructural), and pulling that off requires convincing people that pumping the breaks will do more damage than flooring the gas.
Don't just doubt the hype, question the spread.
