remember how i have a website? well good news now i have a TOTALLY DIFFERENT WEBSITE
also a post. remember how i used to write posts
This "new normal" of constant reinfection with a disease that carries a high risk of disability is neither sustainable, nor does it resemble what we were told to expect in 2021. Read every word of this piece https://www.thegauntlet.news/p/how-the-press-manufactured-consent
@quincyotter @ator @soatok i would absolutely categorize humans as humanoid
@glyph idk how i feel about the feature itself, but fwiw, my first thought was "well you can already record your own audio but that's a turbo nerd thing and you'd have to uhh rejigger pulseaudio and" and then i saw someone posting "yeah i can already record voice chat with obs" and i went "oh"
@glyph we only just had discourse over discord shuffling the mobile ui around and breaking everyone's muscle memory, and how that's rude and intrusive because it requires people to drop everything and catch up on something they thought they knew yesterday
so how do you launch a new thing without being like that
@glyph my understanding is that discord tells you about clips when you join a call? i don't know what else they could do. my spouse told me just yesterday that they never read the changelog popup
i don't know. it's easy for nerds to say "simply make every feature opt-in" but that's mostly a good way to make 99.7% of your users never use a feature or know it exists
@whitequark @gabboman in this case you do. there is a thing to turn the thing off
Everyone needs to check out Splort instead. It's better because it doesn't do anything and no one uses it
Friends, I have dire news. Not only has Discord added a feature, including a warning about when the feature might be used by others, but they have ALSO added a setting to turn the feature off, buried deep in the settings menu under a tab with the name of the feature on it. This is a sign of Discord's slide into irrelevance and we should all stop using it. Software should never change and it's an affront to me personally when it does
@mastodonmigration this just says when you like a post they store your name and avatar, like any other instance
OTTEROTTEROTTER! 🦦
I’m SUPER excited to introduce Percy today, now in fursuit form! He was made by @cfstudios (their first otter!) and they did an absolutely amazing job with him. I’m ecstatic about how he came out! 💙

@cambridgeport90 not remotely, i would think, and i can't imagine how it could be — it plays in realtime
gentle reminder: all large language models are good at is predict the next word in a sequence based on previous words they've seen. that's all. there's no understanding of meaning whatsoever
@astraluma @vyr but all of these are good https://itch.io/c/706234/strawberry-jam-finalists
(no shade on games not in this set, either; this is just the only practical way i can think to whittle it down)
@astraluma @vyr tragically i think the most exotic hardware use so far is that someone made a dvd-rom
If you listen to the news, you could be forgiven for thinking that everything is shit.
It’s not.
One example, Humpback Whale numbers are growing massively.
@Gankra "Safety measures make memory-unsafe languages slow." Good fuck, I love that they explicitly call out the whole "Rust is slow" canard.
@Heather_Herbert i would never
