Fedihost is a managed fediverse hosting service. With a couple of clicks you can be up and running with your own instance of Mastodon or Peertube.

If you have a #YouTube account, Google can delete it or block you from accessing it at any time, without giving any reason (for example https://makertube.net/w/gRZZWZmnD9iU8ahnMGMR4v).
To make sure your videos stay online, you might want to set up your own #PeerTube server:
- Non-techy people can use managed PeerTube hosting like @fedihost or @Cloud68
- Moderately techy people can use @yunohost to install PeerTube themselves

After #Fediforum I've really been thinking about the funding issue. And some folks mentioned libraries and communities. And sure enough @fedihost literally comes out with a video of it today.
This has to be the way. We need to learn to sell the social web. But not to the universe. But to small communities.
My local dojo has 200 kids. They'd LOVE to teach kids social media in a protected environment! Now they CAN!

Migrated to my own private mastodon instance using @fedihost .
So far, ist seems to work well. There are more replies hidden behind a „check that other server“ than before, but it’s not too bad.
The migration itself had more steps than I would have liked, but was overall easy and painless.
The best thing though is that’s is fast. Way faster than my previous instance.

@jack the good thing is you can migrate, and migration is getting more complete.
For sure Mastodon is the easier route for most, and for now GTS is still in beta until 2026 so our offering is targeted at solo instances and people who are comfortable with using beta software.
@jglypt this is a great and somewhat complicated question which @kini and @paige are planning to go over on an upcoming episode of our podcast.
The basics are, the way it interacts with storage ended up being expensive to run on our infrastructure so we priced it to cover those costs for now. We’re hopeful this will be resolved in time, GTS is still a year off its final release.
@mkj Good point! We will add our sinister Canadian origins to our next Terms of Service. Luckily we can update them as new things come to light ;)
