@LisaHarris mastodon.social is probably backed up from all the new users. Leave the follow request in that state and it will eventually go through. It has been happening to me too but it will eventually go through. Unless, the person has their account locked and they never accept your request.

Eventually Mastodon is going to get an opt-in generalized alias network. Like how you could connect to "irc.efnet.org" and it would just quietly select a member network for you.

Automatically slotted into an available instance, then can move when you learn your way around more.

So simple, and will totally solve 99% of people's "why do I have to learn about serverssssss" complaints
