"Footsteps" refers to analog semiconductor history at https://analogfootsteps.blogspot.com/

@Waitnwallflower you can spray her with a garden hose and plausibly say you were being nice.
@okwithmydecay Cool! I've scanned through the documentation quickly. It appears that I *must* self-host an instance. Is that how you read it? Or can I join an existing instance?
I registered and signed in, but the domain is demo...
@daniel @okwithmydecay I just downloaded a RidewithGPS file .gpx and successfully added it to wanderer. (At least I think I did! Search for Hoodoo 500.)
It appears that you can manually upload a route.
The "Summit Book" is how you would share that you followed a trail. This would have your elapsed time, etc. Seems like this is where Strava integration would be used frequently.
Just released #wanderer v0.17.0 – the first version with full federation support via ActivityPub!
wanderer is a self-hosted platform to manage your hiking, biking, and running trails. Now you can follow users, comment, like, share trails, and more across instances.

This is great to see! There have been quite frequent requests for a Fediverse alternative to Strava etc, brilliant that it is happening 🥳
@NorcalGma2 I ride my bike to a coffee shop every morning for my first cup of coffee. There's a good chance of meeting a friendly dog there!
For my second cup, I have a hand grinder and a Clever Dripper. I didn't want another computerized gizmo in the house - tempting as that might be some days.

"...neither Fever coach Stephanie White nor Sun coach Rachid Meziane has been fined for their postgame criticism of the officiating..."
This type of officiating is not uncommon in the #WNBA.
@AssociatedPress @sports-AssociatedPress just watched this game today. Seems like the officiating crew should get a three-game suspension. #wnba
After about 12 hours, power is restored by #PGE. It's early in the hot season, but it happens often enough that we have a routine. Reset the clocks. Certain foods have to be thrown away. Can't shop at the local grocery because it lost power, too. #Pleasanton
@girlsreallyrule.bsky.social make sure to avoid his appearance on Bill Maher then. Yikes!

Today’s #NoKings rally in Dublin, CA
“Why Dublin?”, you ask.
Well, ICE is trying to convert an abandoned prison into an ICE detention facility. This was a prison that was known to be abusive to the people incarcerated there.

@epu it could be a very useful connector, especially since the city of Dublin just completed the bridge over Dublin boulevard. It seems like there is sufficient space to keep the different modes separated.
The idea that cyclists and pedestrians will be alert (looking up while following the indicators painted in the ground) is just not realistic.
Meanwhile, the City of Pleasanton has earmarked $700k for paint and bollards on the Santa Rita / Tassajara overpass at 580. Even though no money will be spent on either street once you cross. Both are ~50mph six-lane streets!
Politically, it is a symbolic gesture without any actual benefit (in my opinion).
@Kzad_Bhat @ai6yr @kboyd @thisismissem I rode by a "farmers for Trump" flag today. It looked really old and tattered.
I commented on the #BART bike/ped plan for the Dublin/Pleasanton station where the Iron Horse Trail passes through. The dashed purple line is intended to be pedestrian flow. So in a left-to-right example, pedestrians leave the station on a separate path (not shown in the close-up) and then share the path with on-coming cyclists. Then pedestrians move onto the sidewalk to the left (above) cyclists before crossing Owens Dr.
But (!), at the point where pedestrians move to the sidewalk, cyclists *change sides* - like they're suddenly in England - and drop down to street level. Presumably, this prevents cyclists from riding close to on-coming vehicle traffic. Bikes and cars are separated by bollards.
It seems chaotic to me.
The response from the planners included: "...cyclists will be moving slowly, heads up, actively engaged in navigating. ... We see little risk of injury collisions from this layout precisely because of its relative complexity, ..."

New study (longitudinal data!): protected bike lanes *cause* people to take up cycling as their way to commute. Painted bike lanes have no discernible effects. ROI on protected bike lanes is the highest of all bike infrastructure.
Who could possibly have imagined it, eh 🤣

@emptywheel.bsky.social the blindfolded Lady Justice has a clock?
I didn't know it was World Bicycle Day - I ride pretty much every day. Today, I happened to notice that I earned a badge on Garmin Connect. So there. #garmin #beatyesterday
Next up is a meeting with my city's mayor to ask why his constituents have fewer opportunities to be heard, why he deprioritized Safe Routes to School in favor of a street sweeper, and what he plans to do if ICE/HSI kidnaps somebody in the city.
