as it turns out, it's very hard to feel upset over javascript while surrounded by a constantly angry ocean and 17m/s northern wind.

the past days we've started getting a taste of the Vardø winds and oh I must admit, I did not expect I would enjoy this type of weather in such a way :blobcatlove:

Want to learn about dataviz accessibility? Wondering how to make them screen reader accessible? Which colors to pick? How to test your work? Or which guidelines to follow?

I’m hosting a workshop series with @smashingconf on dataviz accessibility this autumn 🤓

Spread over 5 sessions, we’ll be covering dataviz accessibility fundamentals, and dive into the world of testing, design, development, and documentation.

Nature as a dataviz medium? 🤓

Notice those white splatters on the wall? The brown spots along the boarded up red window? A heat map made out of poop and removed paint, showing which spots the kittiwakes typically breed.

The kittiwakes are back at their usual spot this year, except this time they’re not standing on any nest, but on a newly put up slanted plank. The amount of nesting material on the ground underneath indicating their failed nesting attempts.

#birds #data #kittiwakes

A red building, with windows and doors that are closed with wood from the inside. One of the windows has a tilted window sill, on which three kittiwakes are standing. There are three big white areas of poop splatter on the wall below them, stretching from a bit underneath the window until the ground level, indicating a lot of repeated pooping over a long period of time. On the ground, there’s a lot of nest material from destroyed/fallen nests. There’s a similar poop and destroyed nest pattern on the left of the window, where a vertical beam has received a slanted wooden blank as well on top. There’s no kittiwake on that one.

@azaliz thank you!

Let’s stop treating accessibility like a dev-only checklist.
It’s a design opportunity. And it starts before the first line of code.

I’m having some availability opening up for dataviz/web accessibility reviews, consulting, talks and training from October onwards.

And as a fun aside, the work will be done from an island a little bit above 70°N in the Norwegian arctic, under the northern lights (or midnight sun in summer), surrounded by whales, rich birdlife, and a whole lot of weather 🤩

Good morning, fediweirdos!

As it's the start of Pride Period, I would like to remind everyone:

  • Let people be who they are.
  • Trans rights are human rights, and how the fuck is it a problem for anyone if someone transitions.
  • Pride is for everyone, except for fascists and fascist enablers.
  • We are allowed to be angry, even more so considering the current political climate.

You know customer support chat bots are in a bad state when I, a millennial, feel like *calling* customer support instead 🥵

I know I work with technology so I should be good at and excited about using technology, but today I had to pick up a package I ordered in a mailbox that had to be opened with an app (for which I had to create an account) and it almost made me cry
