Very cool that the oldest known Polish prose text is actually assembled from binding fragments. It really highlights the importance of #fragmentology, and the possibility of more treasures hidden inside early modern book bindings.

The manuscript is digitised at polona.pl/item-view/032eb921-7.

Something fun from #Fragmentology no. 6 released at the end of 2023: Elizabeth Mullins finds some 9C quire guards in some incunables held in the UC Dublin Library and makes a genuine archaeological join with strips in Auckland doi.org/10.24446/oedi

Detail from Mullins, “Carolingian Bible Fragments in Dublin”, p. 82, showing part of a quire guard from Auckland Libraries Heritage Collection, 1480 BIBL (IV) (above) against a similar fragment in situ in University College Dublin Special Collections, OFM XL (III), f. 240/241.

@chronohh Finally, with all those images, we're going to need to add storage very soon, probably tomorrow morning.

2023-08-16

@chronohh Also, there's a known bug that will be fixed soon, where documents with large number of pages take longer to load at the overview page (non-optimized code hammering the database).

@chronohh The server just got swamped. Let me try to recover
