Stealing this and posting it so it reaches a wider audience. It's really well-done.
"The most wildly successful project I’ve ever released is no longer mine. In all my years of building things and sharing them online, I have never felt so violated."
I can only imagine this is going to be expensive. I haven’t put my March ko-fi page up yet because we’ve had a little good news on work but of course that’s kind of been offset now….
I’m sorry, but if you can help please with car repair costs my link is http://ko-fi.com/foxtrotluna

I love how vibecoded commits are called vommits. It's so perfect.
I consider writing software a kind of craftsmanship. It's important to me to think through what I build, to consciously make design decisions based on knowledge and the existing problem space. To understand why things work (or not!) and be able to solve problems as they come up. To keep things readable, understandable, maintainable.
In the end, I want to be proud of what *I* build.
If you don’t like programming, I invite you to do something else with your time instead of promoting the machine that lets you not do it. Some people actually like it, you jerks.
Adulthood is realizing Superman comics aren’t fantasy about how good it would be to have power; they’re a fantasy about what it would be like if someone with power was good.

Quote in September last year for a high-memory compute server. £28,000.
Quote today for the _exact same machine_. £90,500
This is for medical research. Saving lives. When I say LLMs are killing people by killing research computing, this is what I mean.

I am always amazed by the expert mode of the SQLite CLI.
You type .expert
Then you paste your SQL query.
And #sqlite tells you which indexes you should create to speed up your query.
No AI, no complex program to install. No expensive database architect to pay for. It's just clever programming.
To my knowledge this is the only database in the world to have this feature.

A few years ago I designed a way to detect bit-flips in Firefox crash reports and last year we deployed an actual memory tester that runs on user machines after the browser crashes. Today I was looking at the data that comes out of these tests and now I'm 100% positive that the heuristic is sound and a lot of the crashes we see are from users with bad memory or similarly flaky hardware. Here's a few numbers to give you an idea of how large the problem is. 🧵 1/5
People keep telling me to treat LLMs as junior devs, as if "a junior dev who is structurally incapable of learning from mistakes" isn't a working definition of hell.
