George Laskowsky

I've been programming games most of my life, games you either never heard off or cared about.

In my spare time I like playing with retro computers and games.

My current professional role is Head of Platform: planing and prioritising the improvements affecting all games at the company.

Living in Germany, born in Chile.

Yesterday I had a fight with my game design partner about the use of AI in video game production.

I don't want that shit anywhere near my games, he is worried about surviving as a small inde studio.

Leaving all its issues behind, he was trying to make a case for mechamical repetitive tasks... but I don't see it, there are already good tools to cover many repetitive tasks already. I do believe there is creativity and learnings involved in repetitive work.

Am I being too extreme?

The world is preoccupied while Gaza is being annihilated off-screen.The massacres continue100 martyrs &hundreds wounded today. A day that reminds us of the early days of aggression.
Every hour since dawn, there has been a massacre An urgent call to donate blood.
An urgent call to provide hospital beds for the wounded. An urgent call to bring in medical supplies and infant formula. An urgent call to deliver fuel to hospital
An urgent call do not forget Gaza.
Help please 🙏

On a directors meeting I had to be the reasonable voice about AI adoption in development and everyone was looking at me like an heretic. One said "maybe is because your are not trying hard enough", another said "maybe we should get someone who gets it".

Hate corporate people who never learned the ropes and act as they are expert when everyone knows they are just spitting their latest whims. No reasoning, no care for details, no understanding of the problem and much less of a solution.

Yesterday was the worst real life The Office day I ever had.

I had to explain to the corporate director why making complex war simulation multiplayer live mobile games is hard and why you need a tech team to take care of the inhouse shared framework and infrastructure.

He wanted to have teams that behave like "speed boats", whatever it means and the ideal team size is 3.

On top, he wants to dramatically change the workflows 2 months before the new game realeases.

Corporate gamedev is broken.

Trying to organize my parts bin. Found a SHM-IC-1 8348 but can't find its datasheet anywhere.

Do you have an idea where else to search for?

Should I build a TTL computer? I am tempted to do a small one following Ben Eater's wonderful videos, but with some simplifications to reduce the IC count.

I want to show my kids how simple a small computer can be so they can build the right mental model of how one works.

@bitinn I guess a conservative answer would be whatever you need for at least 2 to 3 years at the level of comfort of your choosing.

This will radically change between countries, ages, family situation, personal tastes, etc.

I am currently trying to go indie, and without such savings, my alternative is to seek equity free public founding.

I will first reduce the full-time job to part-time until I have something good to show and can seek for private capital.

Made all my medium posts open to non-subscribers (so, I think, everyone), and am also considering posting them on other platforms too.

Will be linking to all the newly opened articles in this thread, but you can also find everything here: medium.com/me/stories/

Pitch deck sent to Hamburg's game incubator program. This will allow us to hire an artist and writer to round the core game idea and theme, before we seek further funding from their prototype program.

If we don't get it, at least we will still be able to refine the core gameplay on our free time before we push it to a publisher.

One small step towards the owning my own micro-studio.

@seb_degraff I used to work with Eike, he is one the most talented programmers I know and a very nice guy overall. It was strange to see him in a video on a mastodon post :D

Here are three player characters and three enemies.

The game is party-turn-based
strategy, based on a dark take of the afterlife.

Would you be interested based on the art alone?

Every time someone tells me AI is just a tool, I respond:

"AI is just a tool in the same way a nuclear bomb is just a weapon"

I need a good plagiarism checker tool, which doesn't upload, stores or shares the content of the uploaded files.

Paid or free, it doesn't matter. It needs to be good and support Spanish and translated text that tries to hide plagiarism.

@NateBarham Thanks Nate for the kind words. Do you feel one still is more appropiate to some gamestyle?
