I am me. You are not. Together we could be friends.

New profile is now at: glenn@streams.caffeinated.social

I was actually running an instance of Zap before I setup this Mastodon instance but wanted to see how Masto had changed since I first ran it. While it is a little less resource intensive than its early days, it is still far heavier than other options.

I've just got all my follows moved over to my new profile at: @glenn@streams.caffeinated.social

I'm still self-hosting my own instance but I have moved to Streams (codeberg.org/streams/streams/). It is sooo much less resource hungry then Mastodon but still allows me to follow all the same people.

@MichaelTunnell Where you demonstrate how you use MichaelAI to select and summarise the news articles for you?

That would be fascinating 😂

@darth it's already been mentioned, but Defender of the Crown for me. I spent hours building my kingdom back in the day.

Happy "being invisible when things work perfectly, and being screamed at when things go wrong" day, everyone!

Happy Sysadmin Day - Matrix styled

Have fun! If it works for you anything like myself it'll become indispensable. I've been using it at home here for at least four years reliably.

UPDATE 2023.06.26: I can confirm via Red Hat employees the Developer Subscription has not experienced any changes. There is a display bug with the Customer Portal that is being tracked down. The DS4I is still limited to 16 entitlements.

---

YO WHEN WAS THIS CHANGED

#RedHat's Developer Subscription for Individuals has been upped from 16 entitlements to 240!

Do you have anything to hide? 😡“

Yes! I do!

Just installed Unmanic (github.com/Unmanic/unmanic) and, skeptically, let it loose on part of our media library.

I'm no longer a skeptic - 3GB episodes of one show down to 400MB. Quality still looks great on the TV. Both Jellyfin and Kodi seem to handle the H265 format fine.

Just when I thought I needed to invest in bigger drives!

Ooo, new shiny thing. Time to play... first impressions: Quality seems good and they feel comfortable in the ear. Sound quality seems good so far.

On 9th May 1386 the Treaty of Windsor was signed between Portugal and England, uniting the two countries in a perpetual alliance.

It remains the oldest active alliance in the world.

In WW2 it would TWICE play a quiet but critical part in the allies' victory over the Axis, to the watching disbelief of Roosevelt and the Americans.

Here's how the treaty came about, was lost, almost got cancelled, then helped Britain in its darkest hour. /1 🧵 #history #histodons #portugal #uk

treaty screenshot: there shall be from this day forward between our above said Lord Edward, King of England and France, and the lord Ferdinand, King of Portugal and Algarve and the Lady Eleanor, Queen and his consert, their successors in the a foresaid Kingdoms of England and Portugal and their realm, lands, dominions, provinces, vassals and subject faithfully obeying them, whatsoever true, faithful, constant, mutual, and perpetual friendships, unions, alliances, and leagues of sincere affection, and that as true and faithful friends they shall henceforth reciprocally be friends to friends, and enemies to enemies...

TIL the command line tool ack has a some easter egg options. They're listed in the man page if you want to see them all. My favorite is `ack --bar`.

Found this lovely little gem in this article: https://bigbrotherawards.de/en/2023/zoom - and it isn't restricted only to corporate software. I see this stunt getting pulled every day - both inside and outside the fediverse.

[For the benefit of people using software that removes HTML from posts, a blockquote follows this.]

And it really works just like the legend that girls are supposedly bad at maths: Tell people that B is very complicated and never works, and that they won’t be able to use it anyway because they are incompetent. Then tell them that A is childplay and always works. And the illusory miracle happens: While for people like me, B (meaning Jitsi and BigBlueButton – self-hosted videoconferencing systems without secret services or surveillance capitalism) always works, the Zoombies fail at using it as if they had been hit by a curse. Suddenly the microphone fails, so does the webcam, the laptop falls off the table. But with Zoom, everything, allegedly, works like a charm.

For these people – oh, what a miracle – it is only A, Zoom, that works. This is largely down to the psychology of marketing, not technology. The motto is: “If the commercial solutions don’t work, it is the users’ fault. If the alternative solutions don’t work, it is the software …”
