Is AI really evolutionary computing, where they found marvelous new ways to do mutation and meme mixing, but forgot about selection?

Post from Timothy Snyder:

Five things to remember about war:
1. Many things reported with confidence in the first hours and days will turn out not to be true
2. Whatever they say, the people who start wars are often thinking chiefly about domestic politics
3. The rationale given for a war will change over time, such that actual success or failure in achieving a named objective is less relevant than one might think
4. Wars are unpredictable
5. Wars are easy to start and hard to stop

Yes, & he seems very “simply structured” (as my late husband would say) & too vain (&/or dumb or simply structured) to rehearse words he doesn’t know (“enrichment”) so he stumbles over them & sounds as well as looks like an uneducated moron [auto-correct writes “Mormon” but I don’t think that is correct; gee I am getting tired of fighting it] with daddy issues who can be easily manipulated by any so-called ‘strong man’. As for thanking god in the same voice &/or tone as thanking a general … words fail me. 😐

Ahhh, the good old 'no other options' fallacy. Trust a conservative to argue in bad faith.

This is a failure of the highest order. Danielle and her clowns need to be removed. #abpoli #firetheUCP #measles

Libertarian/Russia GOP now likely to try to speed-run the Kubler-Ross stages of grief and come up with reasons why Trump should be allowed “this one time” exemption in order to finally “end all wars.” But it will take some serious mental gymnastics.

The KGB-Putin are getting amazing bang for the buck, for the money they've invested in Trump. Trust destroyed and speed-running decline.

The funny thing is that China, not Russia will be the biggest winners.

Last Thursday, the UN special rapporteur on human rights and climate change, Elisa Morgera, called for misinformation and greenwashing by the fossil fuel industry to be criminalised.
theguardian.com/environment/20
Morgera said in her report last week that countries must “defossilise” information systems, after decades of misinformation from the powerful fossil fuel industry.

She said states should “criminalise misinformation and misrepresentation (greenwashing) by the fossil fuel industry” and “criminalise media and advertising firms for amplifying disinformation and misinformation by fossil fuel companies”. The UN secretary general, António Guterres, called in June 2024 for a ban on advertising by fossil fuel companies, calling the firms the “godfathers of climate chaos”.
