@danielsaidi Nice! Gonna check it out

@danielsaidi Thanks! It was a pain in the but to get those image animations to scale properly across iOS/iPad & visionOS but i'm pretty happy with the results. Most importantly my signup conversions have increased.

Introducing my partner (Sociologist professor with ZERO interest in SW) to Star Wars by pitching her on Andor. But first I suggested she watch Rouge One before we started Andor and she really liked it!

Starting Andor S1 tonight. Wish me luck 🤞🏽

@danielsaidi I love OnboardingKit! I use it Chunk for popovers.

Not to stroke my own ego, but I recently redesigned my onboarding, taking inspiration from Apple’s “Invite” app. Would be cool to have something modular and flexible similar to this style if possible.

Really happy that is actually good. The nailed the tone of the books imo.

‘Private Search’ coming to Chunk this week!

Chunk is one of the few AI apps that doesn’t read your chats or share your data with LLMs or advertisers. Now you can make sure those embarrassing questions aren’t even stored in your history 🫣

Simply turn on Private Chat in the AI Model selection screen and look for the 👁️

One of my users (professor) shared that they’re using Chunk to help create an asssignment where their students match rappers lyrics to the appropriate sociological theoretical perspective. We love this use!

@com I’d love to be able to do that. Perhaps some day in the future once the app has matured.

I’m currently putting in so many hours into the app right now, constantly improving it I’m not sure I can come up with a price anyone would pay for me to justify it.

I charge less than all of my competitors for Chunk. I’m also not artificially limiting context window sizes like some apps…*cough* Perplexity *cough* and up until last week had a pretty lax limit of daily searches.

Until last week when a user, on trial I’ll add, performed 300+ searches a day then canceled their trial.

I have no idea what the hell they were doing but they cost me more than I charge for a yearly subscription 😢. So I had to limit to 200 searches a day.

Just launched native Apple Maps support in Chunk today on iOS. (macOS in App Review)

Adding to the growing list of integrations and rich data support for all types of workflows:

Swift Charts, Code block, Tables, Apple Maps, Image Generation and more!

Not to mention access to all of the latest AI models for less than the cost of one!

The past 2 wks after a big update and some social media post taking off, my app has had a growth spurt.

Downloads up 50+%
Trials up 300%
Usage up over 100%

It really amazing 🥹….however this near air I’m in has introduced my app to some “whale” users. 😭

Someone has been using my app for 2 days nearly & has more searches than all users for the past 2 weeks. Cost me $100 just in API fees. So now I have to add even more restrictions that I had until now, avoided.

I’ve been iterating on my custom Markdown parser & UIView elements since adding/improving support for codeblocks, Swift Charts, custom table UI etc.

Initially it worked but wasn’t the most efficient when there’s complex UI and I would occasionally have layout issues.

I finally figured it out! Got to delete like 25% of my code and it’s snappy as hell.🙌🏽 New update is out now on iOS.

@cakemix Oh yeah! But thanks to the power of AI I can at least attempt to communicate which is another game changer.

James Gobertgobert
2025-04-24

@cakemix its definitely extra work. Every word you add or change you have to basically do it 5 times. Artwork with text is the biggest pain but for me it has been worth it. It opens your app up to so many more possible users. Plus it’s just a thoughtful thing to do 😊

James Gobertgobert

@cakemix Sorry. It’s jargon I picked up working in Gaming. It’s short for French, Italian, German, Spanish & Japanese. Big games are usually translated in these languages to cover a large % of the world

James Gobertgobert

Two of my biggest decisions when building Chunk was to design it multi-platform (iOS/macOS/visionOS) in SwiftUI from the start and to translate it on the App Store FIGS/J

Both things I was told not to do as a solo indie dev. While there has been stumbles and time cost with both, they’ve proven to be great long term investments.

Now the Mac app is the second most used and half of my subscribers are international.

@Erklaerbaer what specifically about any of those APIs concern you? I use the minimal amount of APIs needed from Google I need to run my app and none of the spyware crap any other AI apps on the App Store is guaranteed to be using.

Yes I use Firebase for storage and user authentication. If you noticed I don’t even ask to track users for ads. A major reason it’s been hard for me to gain traction over inferior apps with better ad tracking.

But if you just don’t like Google that’s your right.

@Erklaerbaer yep that’s it. Sorry about that. I ran out of characters. I’ll add it to the thread. Thank you!
