The station steps, under the clocks.

Generative soft-synth chaos collage self arrangement.

Another hard sound track after another city visit. Post/mixdown addition of noise surface from Radio Aporee sample of Flinders Street Station - by John Hopkins, 2011. History!

In this one, the fine grain of pitch selection comparator gating is tapped as the primary track for percussion triggers, redivided and multiplied with sync back to main clocks.

@ibendr More or less. (a) Reaper will generally render/record steadily at the expense of the playback audio buffer - so if you can endure teetering through the stuttering-glitches the file can surprisingly be clean (b) Or can ignore the 'playing' and rig things up to be purely generative / hands-off, then render straight to a file with no live audio.
Neither well represent what I'm aiming for. The typical progress is to adventurously load up modules until threads are thin then rebuild a few of the overload points to regain confident live timing.

@nikolaihampton I can offer some information, but can't make it be useful. If you arrive at parts of the site with API&data interaction, mostly the pages redirect to a "reg.bom.gov.au" domain under https. Weirdly this domain also seems to mirror the whole site from top down. No rush for https because it already is? But all searches & general links hit the http domain. BOM links are a long-running joke. Google&Firefox regularly deliver the hackneyed punchline!

If you are NSW, this mob were great when I used to do a lot of repairs. (and good stocks of semi's) Quick to deliver, was usually overnight to south coast for me. But they might bug you for an ABN-or-such to get an account started, they mostly do trade sales.

A tune in appreciation of town planning allowance for walking the riverbank on a summer night alongside the crowd, not within it.

With a bunch of XOR-ing and NAND-ing to tease sparseness into the beats vs bass and shuffle up the crisp-attacks.

@tiredhorizon Hi! You have 1x listener right here. I don't say much. I also don't gain much ground.
I appreciate any day my feed here has a decent %-age of play-able track posts, whatever the pedigree.

@nielso
"This very modular approach, be it VSTs or LV2s or VCV modules, is concept is too fragile to survive the quick tides of software and OS development and upgrades in general."

That's the end game, true enough. The realisation of a very slow and bloated way to patch with jumpers straight on breadboard & occasionally shake the whole mess upside down back onto the bench :)

Thanks for the reminder - to be spontaneous in making pieces and to expect their own disassembly.

2025-01-19

@nielso It was mostly the slow churn of modules that made me try Cardinal. Very frustrating to open old projects and find modules mysteriously missing or misconfigured. There was no simple way to get a modules list from a project then bounce straight to the website/moduleAPI to grab any missing as an auto-selection. And no simple way to get a warning showing exactly which cables/connections would be dropped if you re-opened the file. (Uncompressing and diffing json partly by code & partly by hand was fun for??? - Not very long!) Maybe those features can improve for VCV? Contrary, yet to see how many times I can update Cardinal before the same problem emerges.

Similarly, having favourite VST's etc was always a hassle to drag them around different PC's and OS installs. Now I have not the "best" software ever, but just 1:DAW with only 1:VST storing just 1:ProjectFile = using Cardinal in Reaper. I can spread DSP threading by multi-Cardinal-s on multi-tracks and the ReaperJS_FX are well capable for additional audio FX I might chase. I don't mind customising ReaperJS_FX scripts if wanting something weird. Constraints boost creativity? (sometimes)

2025-01-19

@jimbob Look forward to hearing it flesh out more! I'd bookmarked the original but not got so far as to steal it.

2025-01-19

@nielso Nice. Since jumping from VCV to Cardinal, I do miss the multi-headed rainbow spinny-wheel thingo!

2025-01-19

Stripped down from a prior experiment ending only in CPU overload. Traded some FX for more basic VCO modulations, bumped voices track-wise for cleaner threading, submixed a few VCA&trigger paths for boolean masked 'commons'. Runs fine live now. Another un-named.
