Einigen ist bestimmt bereits bekannt, daß ich kollektiv finanzierte Übersetzungen im Rahmen meines Crowdfunded Translation Project mache. Das funktioniert so:
Als Zielbetrag gilt der nach meinem üblichen Tarif für das jeweilige Sprachpaar (für EN-DE etwa: USD 0,14/Quellwort) errechnete Gesamtpreis.
Ich übersetze dann im Rhythmus der Projektbeiträge und stelle die fertiggestellte Übersetzung dann für alle zugänglich als PDF-Datei auf meine Patreon-Seite.
Ich überlege mir gerade, das Gutachten des IGH zur Besatzung Palästinas ins Deutsche zu übersetzen. Über dessen Inhalt wird in Medien u. Politik nämlich sehr viel gelogen, und es erscheint deshalb durchaus sinnvoll, eine fachgerecht übersetzte deutsche Fassung bereitzustellen.
Das Gutachten selbst umfasst 41.214 Wörter (USD 5769,96) und die nicht amtliche Zusammenfassung, in der auch die Sonder- und Minderheitsvota zusammengefasst sind, 17.870 (USD 2501,80). Die Kosten für die beiden Dokumente betragen also USD 8271,76.
Die Übersetzungskosten für Gutachten und Zusammenfassung mit allen Sonder- und Minderheitsvota beliefen sich für 118.823 Wörter auf USD 16.635,22.
Die Übersetzung selbst wird aber nur dann möglich sein, wenn Interesse und Spendenbereitschaft bestehen. Deshalb möchte ich erst mal sehen, ob Interesse an einem solchen Projekt besteht.
@anneroth Auf Englisch braucht man halt drei Worte, wo auf Deutsch das schöne Wort "Hochstapler" völlig ausreicht.

He was a true and brave whistleblower.
I had the luck of getting a hold of his docs when they were under court seal, and we published them at Wired.
Only met and interviewed him later. He was a gentle man with a moral compass. A rarity even among whistleblowers.
The world is poorer without him.
