I am a parent in Canada, and I support schools who donāt out trans kids to their parents.
Children are not our property.
Children have a right to know that LGBTQA+ people exist.
Children have a right to their own bodies and feelings.
I am very against the hate parade who think they have āparent rightsā to force schools to deny the existence of LQBTQA+ people. I want my child to know that they can be whoever they are.
It matters ā:betterpride_flag:ā
Finally, another installment in my much self-anticipated series of maintaining a custom LMS. Not much technical details yet, mostly just documenting the emotional turmoil that the past few weeks have been.
@NPR Why is it always "people should weigh how much risk they're willing to tolerate" and never "people should weigh how much risk they're willing to inflict"?
I started what I hope will be a series of posts describing my experiences taking over maintenance and development of a custom Learning Management System (LMS). Hopefully by making it public and attracting a couple followers, I will be more likely to actually make it a series and not just another one-off attempt at "I'm really going to start blogging this time"
It seems that some parents worry about how to explain the existence of gay and trans people to their kids.
Itās trivially easy.
āSometimes, men love men. Sometimes, women love women. Sometimes, people find out that although they have a manās body, theyād be happier living as a woman - or the other way around.
All these people deserve to be happy and respected, just like you.ā
And thatās really all there is to it.
Apparently there's a new Hogwarts game coming out for multiple gaming platforms. Just a reminder that if you spend money on it, some of that money goes to #JKRowling, who has gone to great lengths to make herself the biggest, worst transphobe in the world.
Money given to #HogwartsLegacy supports transphobia, plain and simple.
There is not such a dearth of enjoyable games in the world that you need to spend money on *that one*.
Fight #transphobia. Don't support it.
The only "agenda" transgender people have is the right to exist in peace.
"Stop posting about politics" == "I'm in favour of the status quo and the direction of movement."
It's not just asinine it's enabling fascists by silencing their opponents. C.f. the response to @aral proposing the merest figleaf of "Don't use this software for unethical purposes" in licences.
If you donāt like a regular political take... don't listen. And if someone is working against fascism boost their views. Don't try and silence them!
Are there any #LearningTechnology folks out there who have experience or resources regarding implementation of an #LTI platform? The resources I have found seem to focus on #tools implementation. Some of it too is I just don't have a deep understanding of how to implement an OAuth provider?
Just saw a #sponsored post on my Google news feed by #Xfinity that is advertising hardware capable of "supersonic" WiFi. Really setting a low bar on that one, but I suppose it is at least attainable, even by #Xfinity.
@spgreenhalgh not having used ClassDojo, and having h used iClickers but not sure what makes "iClicker Reef" different, my guess is that since iClickers are a means to share information with instructors people might be lumping them in the same category? In my experience working with first year college students most do not have a well developed understanding of the boundaries between different softwares they use.
@spgreenhalgh my searches suggest it might be a kind of iClicker, or is otherwise associated with iClickers

While watching the show #Wednesday, which I generally enjoyed, I found myself wondering if anyone else was complaining about the inaccurate depiction of fire alarms and sprinkler systems in one particular scene. In fact, someone is keeping track: https://hollywoodfiresprinklers.com/

Hot-take think pieces on how "bad" fedi is by people who joined a week ago remind me of this seminal article of deep insight:

Iām beginning to see quite a few āthis is a positive space, there is no place for negativity hereā style posts (especially by newer folks) so I want to hopefully clear something up:
This is also a space to be protected. From fascists, bigots, etc., and also from corporate capture (unless you want to watch it turn into what the greater web turned into. Some of us lived through that once. Would be nice not to again.) Opposing such thingsāand vocally if need beāis not a negative; it is a positive.
Each new generation on the web needs to learn that thereās no such thing as a permanent web identity on a commercial web service.
The only long-term solution to maintain your identity is:
1. your own domain name
2. Your own website/blog
3. Several backups
Everything else is temporary. Your accounts on myspace, facebook, medium, twitter, google plus, youtube, tiktok, mastodon will one day disappear or become useless.
You donāt have a "community" on those websites. Only ephemeral discussions.
Many government agencies are expressing concerns about how to communicate with the public without Twitter, especially in emergencies. Of course, it was a bad idea to become dependent on Twitter to such an extent in the first place, and no matter what happens, this needs rethinking.
