@fabio One could argue that information technology kept going from strength to strength well past the 80s, but complexity increased and real (as opposed to financial) returns diminished. So comparing mid-20th century Bell to Google and Apple of 2025 comes off as a bit unfair.
The point about public funding is well taken. Democratic institutions have weakened to a point where they're unable to address issues that the vast majority would like to see solved (climate change, health care).
