@isaiah @wigging full agree

@wigging it’s probably the excuse but i wonder how many users ever do this. my guess is that a graphic designer at apple loves loupes, or the idea of them, but this has led them to in inapt icon.

@mattiem oh? I don’t remember having to set this in the past. where to find this setting? Safari does behave correctly on this issue and has its own setting for it.

And we're all agreed that this image of a loupe has almost nothing at all to do with the functionality of Preview, right? I have a loupe irl, and never use it to read an article, no matter how small the font. (I never really noticed the loupe in the previous icons, because it was just a small added element, but now I’m confused why it was ever used.)

[Tahoe] Correct me if I'm wrong, but Preview and TextEdit not re-opening all files that were open when you last quit is surely a bug and not intentional, right? I’ve not submitted a radar because it seems like of course it’s a bug, but it’s beta 3, and I’m getting nervous.

Electron is such a pig of a framework. takes up ¼ G for each app that has it, which is 9G in my /Apps folder. I have the room, but yeesh. (I miss the days of at least trying to make /Library/Frameworks share politely, though it ran into problems.)

Safari on mac is completely untrustworthy as far as restoring windows and tabs across launches / reboots. Fortunately I have a script to find the missing tabs, but when I quit the app I had 248 tabs open. On relaunch: 152. A problem worth fixing, you’d think. Goes back about 2 OSes.

if you use an early Mac OS X version, from Public Beta thru Mountain Lion, I have resurrected my old “Native OS X Applications” page. Many links are broken, it’s true, BUT many aren’t. I still find it useful when using older Macs / emulators.

(Apple finally made their own App Store in 2011, causing my list, which started in 1999, to be discontinued in ’12. It had a good run.)

the audio system seems all messed up in Tahoe. not just the Music app per se. I had to stop playing for fear or damaging my laptop speakers. others run into this? (i’m on beta 2)

oddly, it's easier to see in the graphics posted on mastodon than directly in the browser, so refer to your copy for best comparison

Quick, which tab is active? Can you even tell these are supposed to be tabs? My eyes hurt just looking at them.

And the symbols on these buttons are far far far too techie. Apple is supposed to champion the non-techies as well as the techies. The finder shouldn't employ this kind of insane hieroglyphics. It more like APL than friendly UI.

My guess is that it evolved so slowly into these symbols that the designers at Apple haven't stopped to rethink the issue. We all know Mac users (most?) who don't ever end up learning what these do because they look too complicated and don't encourage exploration.

These are bad looking buttons. We are just stuck with these bad UI decisions. Can't the arrogant designers just _ask_ the community if we like things before "surprise! look how awesome we are!".

Win no. 2 for Tahoe tonight: Safari windows from last session open in correct Space on relaunch! This has been broken for *years*.

BUT: Terminal, TextEdit and Xcode all don’t restore any documents on launch. Known issue? (I assume that can’t be intentional.)

One thing finally solved in macOS: Having slow external drives attached has always caused Spotlight to be unusably slow finding anything. But in Tahoe, it finally gives results from the fast internal SSD very quickly, and eventually includes more from the externals. Win!
