The Interpeer Project’s mission is to enable a human centric next generation internet.

This account is less likely to follow back than its owner; it's more of an outlet for official news and related interests.
But hey, their archived news page announcing the doc is still there.
The IAB also updated their statement, FWIW.
Things you didn't expect you have to do: change references to *published standards* because they're withdrawn on a whim.
Anyway, if you want to access NIST.IR.8366.pdf, there is a copy still on @internetarchive at https://web.archive.org/web/20250203031433/https://nvlpubs.nist.gov/nistpubs/ir/2021/NIST.IR.8366.pdf
I wondered who Free Software is actually for. So I did some wrinking (which is writing and thinking at the same time).

On ethical use being included in the Open Source Definition:
"If ethical use is not in scope for those definitions, they are obsolete, and need to be replaced by definitions that do bring such things into scope."
Two recent triggers and a long history led to this statement, summarized in this post:

@interpeer @librecast I see us, and similar projects in the @NGIZero space as all setting out to climb the same mountain.
We're not competing against each other, only the mountain. ⛰️
If, by working together, we can help each other to the summit, we should.
In a sense, the two projects came to much the same conclusions via different paths, and are trying to build a very similar thing.
So if you're bent on establishing a difference, it might be that @librecast is a little more focused on bottom-up, working code approaches -- while @interpeer has been funded to put effort into more abstract R&D, defining architecture, publishing specifications, and general dissemination of these efforts. D vs. R in R&D, perhaps.
It's *really* complementary.

I rarely use this account to promote things that are not directly related to the Interpeer Project, but this #FluConf article by @librecast's @dentangle is so much aligned with our own Values, I should have written it.
https://www.librecast.net/fluconf-2025/
It's also why our projects are in close contact, and we're working on ways to collaborate as much as possible.

@kubikpixel Thank you for the boost!
I don't think "using it" is very easy at this point; there are bits and pieces that are definitely usable, but overall it's an R&D project.
It'd be nice to get this off the ground with sustained funding... which is what the current focus is mostly on.
Part 3, on layering and why it's crucial to understanding centralization. This post also argues that the #fediverse -- beautiful as it is -- is extremely centralized.
https://interpeer.org/blog/2025/01/on-de-centralized-communications-part-3/
The second part of networks and (de-)centralisation dives into mathematics a bit to illustrate how difficult this notion of "centralization" is to grasp more concretely.

... a hundred of you decided to put the cost of a cup of coffee a month into that donation form, than if one of you agonized over whether to give their #Christmas donation to starving kids or this project.
Obviously starving kids are the better choice!
But that cup of coffee? It'd be appreciated!
https://interpeer.org/donations/
Also, consider that the Christmas Elf still wants to send gifts:
https://chaos.social/@interpeer/113653340868808709
Who would want to disappoint an elf, eh?
Anyway, how do people phrase this?
"If you enjoy this content, please consider donating so I can keep producing it or some such."
In all honesty, the donation is unlikely to change *that*. But it helps keep the lights on. If nothing else, running a non-profit entity incurs regular costs, for hosting, an accountant, etc.
It'd also be nice to shift away from purely grants based work to some continuous income. Transaction fees notwithstanding, it would genuinely be better if ...
In response to a number of recent discussions on the (de-)centralization of networks, here's a somewhat grandiosely titled first part in a short series of blog posts that re-examine this terminology.

*Update:* it helps if you don't post links to localhost, btw.

Anyway, happy holidays and all that! Have a good 38C3 and all that if you attend!
You're smart, you can figure it out.
The shirts look like this, by the way, except probably even sexier on you!
It'd be a shame if they didn't get sent to people, eh? Ah, well, but I still can't really *sell* them. Damn shame.
Again, no promises! I won't order more, after all, or not for a while.
If stock runs out, or you're too much of a cheapskate, the Christmas Elf will likely sulk. They're a bit like that, yeah... have to talk to them about that, but I really don't fancy the argument.
