I literally just started reading Gail Carriger's "The Heroine's Journey" a few minutes ago and I'm already punching the air and cheering. 😅
This is *exactly* the vibe we're going for with Shiraki Press.

Sometimes the whole world is just like, "You know how you were trying to focus on writing just there? Haha, yeah, you don't get to do that any more."
@mcc Yeah, I feel like everything I ever write goes pretty much exactly like this
@wallacewords It's so hard! And then everyone's like "just do pomodoro" and it makes me want to scream. 🫠
@wallacewords Thank you for saying so! ☺️
@jerry TBH most of this reads to me like "my bot accounts aren't doing viral numbers and I'm going to make that Mastodon's fault".
Overall, this person seems to want something very different from social media than what Mastodon is made for: they seem to want bots, viral trends, and "reach", where the rest of us just want some humans talking to each other.
@the_etrain Thanks, now I'm thinking about the fascism *and* my age 🫠
@ghosttie Yeah, I've gone through a few cycles of this since 2014. It's been a real rough decade. There is no moral failure in needing a break.
paying attention to things is how we show love.
whether it's taking care of someone, acts of service, physical touch -- it's centered around attention
i've been thinking about attention a lot. silicon valley likes to treat it like a resource to capture, a commodity
when our attention is hijacked by corporate forces, it reduces our capacity to love each other. over time, it makes us afraid.
fear is one of our strongest emotions - and fearful people are good consumers.
don't let those fuckers occupy your head.
Well I guess we're adding "carcinogenic receipt paper" to our 2025 disaster bingo card 🫠

I've lost count of how many times I've had an idea for a social media post, but then I opened up Masto or BlueSky or whatever and that idea irretrievably vanished before a feed full of other people's thoughts.
So yeah, this piece by @aworkinglibrary resonates:

@xgranade I "like" my FloMask, in that it doesn't make me want to actively tear my own face off, but yes: this post is a whole mood.
If you are in the thick of some institution that is complying with fascism, and if you feel there’s just nothing you can do from where you sit to stop it, you have no power at all…
…there is one thing you might be able to do to help: keep records.
Write down what happens — contemporaneous notes of the who, what, when, where, how — in a safe place your organization cannot delete out from under you. Just store it away.
It might matter one day. Heaven willing.
