@alexkaessner guess I'm a bit out of the loop... are there any actual leaked screenshots? Honestly I think the current state of macOS and iOS feels pretty timeless to me, but open to be proven wrong. That said, I'm always happy to redesign things (especially when paid for lol).

Posted some recent design work on Layers.
I want to live this platform, but whenever I check back it’s just unbearable slow… wonder if anyone is even still working on it. layers.to/layers/cmaqrrvhl0008

Material Design 3 "Expressive" has been released with updated Docs. m3.material.io/

🎉 Figma Buzz: Gimmick. I guess they want to have something to compete with Canva. Might be helpful for large social media teams that are art-directed. #figma #config

📐 Grid Auto Layout: amazing addition. Since auto layout is basically flexbox—now we get CSS grid behavior too. Grid is great for the overall layout structure and complex arrangements. #figma #config

🖌️ Drawing Mode: I rarely use brushes, but I think this is big for illustrators looking to ditch Adobe. Hope they also fixed some bugs on vector ops and SVG import/export. “Text on path” finally being native is a win—no more plugin hacks. #figma #config

💅 New Effects: This one flew under the radar I feel. Progressive blur, noise and pattern fills kind fill the gap for me between Figma and what old school design tools like Photoshop or Fireworks could do. My favorite addition after grid. #figma #config

#Figma just dropped a bunch of new features at #config. Some real game-changers, a few misses. My personal take on these:

🌐 Figma Sites: Saw this coming. Early days though—can’t really compare with Webflow or Framer yet. I stay away from any no-code editors due to lock-in effects (see price hikes on framer for certain features on existing projects) and limitations in what you can do. #figma #config

@ctietze definitely, flexbox is goat! They say everything was better in the past, but I never want to go back to writing weird float and vertical-align hacks to push elements around...

Klokki Slim it is! Great app.

Current status of the build: moving earth around. ⛰️ 🏡 #homebuilding

One of my biggest design system mistakes: adding margin to components. I thought eg. inputs would usually need spacing below. In reality, edge cases are more common. Components should control their children — never their siblings or parents.

Looking for a no-bullshit time tracking app since Tyme 2 is discontinued. All I need is a menu bar app that handles Projects and Tasks with a simple button for time tracking. No app tracking, no AI, no invoicing, no subscription model. Is there really nothing like this out there?

2025-03-21

@Maybach Haha, yeah I need to get rid of the relative time labels... they only update when I create a new build since it's all static...

@mauricerenck Looking forward to it! I gave it a second try recently and got it running just fine. Just had to rewrite bunch of the js as it didn’t play nice in a one-page-app.

Controversial (?) text dump on a Friday: The overlooked art of building a great interface ivomynttinen.com/blog/the-over

2025-02-05

Typical Linkedin evil design pattern: can't just unsubscribe every Mail/App Notification, have to click one-by-one and some of these even have sub categories I have to individually turn off. Then every 6-12 months (I guess when they notice people unsubscribed this junk) suddenly all the categories have a new name and you are subscribed again!

Then I just had to create a few new pages on my Astro-ran site and import the json data and images to finally generate a simple, static, web viewable version of my Eagle library. ivomynttinen.com/blog/publishi

2025-02-05

Since there is no ready-to-publish export option in Eagle, I had to write a little script that exports and transforms the data into a json file. You can grab that code here: ivomynttinen.com/blog/publishi
