Mostly harmless swedish bsd hacker. Also speaks 6502, m68k and some mips64. Hoster of slackathons and some *.eu.openbsd.org infra.
Sometimes known as IcePic.

@goblin @mwl @tedu It's going into ports then, I can't imagine something that works on less than 50% of the arches got in base.
So I don't think its about Rust, Golang, Zig or whatever else might be fashionable at any given week, it's more about "does it compile on Alpha, does it run on Sparc64?"

Some photos of Nagoya *BSD Users' Group and Japan NetBSD Users' Group booth at Open Source Conference 2025 Nagoya (Japan) held on May 31.
We demonstrated some retro machines such as #NetBSD/macppc on Mac mini, NetBSD/evbarm on Raspberry Pi 3, NetBSD/i386 on Fujitsu laptop with old good Pentium CPU, NetBSD/evbppc on Nintendo Wii and #OpenBSD/luna88k and #FUZIX on LUNA-88K2 at the booth.
I also had a small talk about OpenBSD/luna88k and FUZIX. #oscnagoya

@bagder It's also older than TCP/IP, which shows when looking at rules like that.

@bcallah Just found this one, you sort of left out the qemu/utm setups if one wants to run obsd for free on aarch64 macs. I guess some people would prefer not to step into whatever trap VMWare may or may not become in the future.

Not that I think you didn't know of qemu, but if one is to compare the possibilities for having bsd vms, leaving that out felt odd.

@dch @zerotier You could but not recommended as there is not protection of data. We did use vxlan over ikev2 prior to sec being implemented and worked faultlessly for years across 30 odd sites over the internet #OpenBSD #OpenIKED

Sedan tidigare har jag flyttat alla webbar jag host:ar själv till Nginx och FreeBSD. Några servrar återstår men de ska också flyttas från Linux till FreeBSD.

Testing #OpenBSD/luna88k 7.7-beta running on nono 1.4.0 on #OpenBSD/amd64 7.6-stable. Both 7.7-beta and nono seem work fine!

So, golang on mips64-openbsd is out, but since 1.23, risc-v is in:
"Go 1.23 adds experimental support for OpenBSD on 64-bit RISC-V (GOOS=openbsd, GOARCH=riscv64)."

Guess I have to move over to a slightly more recent (or less obsolete) RISC platform for my go needs.

Much better now! Origin300 uses all 16 numalinked CPUs for compiling AND runs on 100% solar power ☀️ Sustainable SGI 😎

terminal windows show gcc output and 16 CPUs at 100%. 2.07 kw/hphoto of the server rack with four Origin300 servers running connected to numalink router. in the background, two solar inverters on the wall.

@dexter You are involved in the openzfs stuff, where does one complain about the weird hoops to jump in docs through in order to see zfs feature list?

Start here openzfs.org/wiki/Features and go via feature flags until you have some kind of answer. That chain is slightly ridiculous.

In my case, I was looking for if iscsi still was a thing or not in zfs, and while the actual answer isn't super important to me, it led me to find the above abomination. =)

There is still time to apply for the "Paul Schenkeveld Travel Grant"

If you are keen on attending next year's conference and require financial support, please consider applying for the "Paul Schenkeveld Travel Grant" for 2025.

You can do this by contacting the board before February 1st, 2025, stating who you are, what you are doing with BSD (😈⛳🐡), and why you should receive the grant.

This grant is in recognition Paul's accomplishments and in memory of his work and dedication to the BSD community, the EuroBSDCon Foundation is offering a travel grant in his name.

Paul was one of the few - if not the only one - to have attended all EuroBSDCon conferences since their inception in 2001. Besides his many contributions to BSD in general and the EuroBSDCon conferences in particular, he established the EuroBSDCon Foundation in 2010 to ensure continuity for many more conferences.

The EuroBSDCon Foundation Board will consider all valid submissions in its sole discretion and communicate its selection by March 2025. The selected person will receive travel expense reimbursement and hotel accommodation during the conference as well as free entrance to the conference and social event.

More information can be found on: eurobsdconfoundation.org/trave

The 2025 edition will be held in Zagreb, Croatia.
