Some time ago I noticed that KDE apps that use QML/Qt Quick are very laggy when it comes to resizing the window compared to "traditional" KDE apps. Am I the only one having that issue, or is it a general thing?

Here is a video that compares Kate and Kontainer, but the issue is persistent with every single Qt Quick app I've tested.

The revolution beginns

A specter is haunting the world. The specter of open source.

It's incredible how the open source scene and the federated internet have developed over the past five years. Linux and the entire ecosystem surrounding it have long since evolved from a hobbyist's playground for nerds into the most modern, sexiest, and adaptable operating system around. Apple and Microsoft are now just dinosaurs from a bygone era.

One of the best examples is KDE and the Plasma desktop. KDE, a hardcore community project, was only usable by masochists and idealists for all the many years it has been around, and now it is the most modern and sophisticated desktop environment imaginable. Not to mention the many projects that come from the KDE environment. With KDE (and Arch), you feel like you've assimilated the Borg collective. It's fascinating.

Both KDE and Valve are working on seamless integration of (Android) mobile apps. Thanks to KDE Connect, I can no longer imagine thinking of my cell phone and desktop as separate entities. Valve has proven with Proton that they can do this. The year of the Linux phone is just around the corner. ;)

It will also be very exciting to see how the Steam Machine develops. If it is a success, a whole new generation of Linux users will emerge. All in all, this is an incredibly positive development.

Even the most reactionary people will eventually realize that DeepSeek is a democratized LLM with an open license, or they will simply go under. Which wouldn't be so bad.

All in all, an edifying development. Important for success is a solid structure that has been able to grow peacefully over decades, and Mastodon has also strongly fueled this idea as “propaganda of the deed,” and I would also like to believe that my essay “Radical Enlightenment – A World of Open Sources” also played a part in this. Let the revolution begin!

I think everyone who says they like #GNOME but wish it had more features should try #COSMIC, because that's they're going for.

Also the GTK4 CSS theming make libadwaita apps blend in a lot more than in #KDE.

For 🦊's sake! 🤬

The #MPV #MediaPlayer still has this insulting #SantaHat. (likely the same insulting confFile variable name / code)

Even worse, this resize performance - it's real time!

1st: edge(corner)-Primary(Left)Click-resize-action
2nd: Alt+RightClick-resize
3rd: Alt+click-move, perfectly smooth 👍
4th: another Alt+RightClick-resize

This is #Manjaro #Linux, #Wayland + #KDE, after both of the big December 2025 updates, as of the 15th.

Dear god the method #KDE uses to mount external storage is complete garbage. Mounted from from the UI:

XXXXXXX@prometheus:/media/kellic/Steam$ rsync -vhrR --size-only --progress --stats --no-perms --no-owner --no-group ./PlexBackup11142025-ver1.42.2.1015.tar.gz /run/media/xxxxx/BACKUP/
sending incremental file list
PlexBackup11142025-ver1.42.2.1015.tar.gz
3.12G 0% 37.05MB/s 4:27:39

vs.

mount command from bash
sudo mount -t ext4 /dev/sda1 /mnt/target/

XXXXXX@prometheus:/media/xxxxx/Steam$ rsync -vhrR --size-only --progress --stats --no-perms --no-owner --no-group ./PlexBackup11142025-ver1.42.2.1015.tar.gz /mnt/target/
sending incremental file list
PlexBackup11142025-ver1.42.2.1015.tar.gz
75.14G 12% 787.01MB/s 0:11:06

Same exact hardware from source to target. The only difference is the method it was mounted.

The Revolution

Still loving as nearly six months comes around as a full time user. After a few initial teething problems (mostly file system weirdness) it has been an almost flawless experience. Every game I have thrown at it has worked with only an old one even needing a proton version change and the mantra of going for and keeping the command line out of the way is definitely the way Linux should go to get more people to switch over. Props to for a fantastic desktop also. :-)

I really, _really_ hate my brain.

For so long, I looked for a #debian based distro with #KDE. I was finally pointed towards #tuxedoOS, but for some stupid reason had trouble warming up to it. Even though it is _exactly_ what I wanted.

Then tuxedoOS updated, and bricked itself so badly I could not log back in. And at half past 1 in the morning I went and re-installed #Nobara.

So now I'm here on a PC that's running perfectly fine with nobara, but I want tuxedo back.

Dear brain, could you please, just once, stick to a damn decision we make? And for a good reason? 🤨
