Must-read NF essay by @jlkercheval on #HearingLoss, #HearingAids, & #AccessibilityAccommodations. (I didn’t realize we had this in common until now.)

These days I tell everyone “I’m hard-of-hearing” right away, but it took practice. And it does often get interpreted as exaggeration, because being HoH is invisible. When someone asks you to speak up or repeat, please interpret it as them wanting to hear you, to engage with & appropriately react to what you have to say.

@jlkercheval A heartfelt thank you for putting into words and images your experiences with being "a little bit deaf." I found so much of myself in it that it felt uncanny--and deeply comforting. That triaging of personal and social discomforts have been especially intense during the pandemic. (And I've fantasized about taking that class with Lynda Barry! She's so awesome.)
