@ireneista @alwayscurious @FenTiger Terrifyingly much runs on RHEL clones. And at least Oracle Cloud was working towards a custom thing similar to Project Atomic for internal use. Oddly enough, not because they appreciated the value of IPS packages, literally everyone involved with the project was surprised to discover Solaris had similar package features for ages.

@mms I took a calculus 3 class and couldn’t stand that my professor expected us all to do every problem with calculator or computer, because we’d always be able to in future. I was the only one who learned to do it on paper, because I wanted to understand numerical methods later.

@sgharms I’d love to see the ticket. I’ve not had any issue with the video cards available too me. There’s been recent attention on making FreeBSD have improved usability, esp on laptops: freebsdfoundation.org/blog/why

So I expect it’ll be appreciated.

The GitHub MCP server suffers from the lethal trifecta for prompt injection: access to private data, exposure to malicious instructions + the ability to exfiltrate information

Be really careful with this stuff: attackers can trick your "agent" into stealing your private data simonwillison.net/2025/May/26/

@cliffle I feel for them, especially since my time doing neural net research was when all this stuff was in academy. And I almost feel like those researchers should have exemption.

But with papers like arxiv.org/abs/2505.12540, which will get much more investment as multimodal models gain influence, we have to accept that embedding are reversible. Any research stance not treating them as reversible, short of an NP Hard proof of the difficulty, is just literal unauthorized copying.

@cliffle At least no one would write a text editor with this issue these days, right? github.com/helix-editor/helix/

Sigh.

Two pounds is a ton to blanche, so we need a ton of boiling water. Once tender, I’m just using cold water to stop the cook until everything else is ready.

All the green beans into the boiling water.By the time the water is boiling again, the beans are probably tender but still have good color. Time to pull.Out of the boiling water and into the cold.

First we’re putting seasoning salt on the meat: mine includes a bit of baking soda to encourage browning, and MSG for extra extra. 500°F broil for five min on each side, then we’re dropping to 250°F until we hit internal temp.

Attempting channeling salt bae as I season to taste.Roast has got a nice crisp on the outside, ready for low and slow. Plenty of fond for a pan sauce later

This week, there was Breadfarm Edison Table Bread at the Burlington Library, plus we got a gigantic pork loin and a bunch of green beans. So tonight we’ll just be doing a simple roast, blanched beans in garlic butter and just heat the bread so butter melts.

@feld I'm really interested in server-to-server federation progress. I can bug people to opt in, but that's not really a long term solution.

Ha! The bug preventing me from updating to modern ruby is due to a call relying on broken HTTP parsing fixed by github.com/ruby/webrick/issues, and it's called within a method I marked deprecated a decade ago.

Looks like I can pin to an older lib, release one last time; then delete a bunch.
