A new #Jepsen report! We worked with TigerBeetle to find seven crashes, elevated latencies during single-node failures, and requests which were retried forever in version 0.16.11. We found only two safety issues: missing results for queries with multiple predicates, and incorrect timestamps in a debugging API. As of version 0.16.45, TigerBeetle had addressed every issue, except for indefinite retries.

Last night @pfrazee.com joined @bcantrill, me, and the Oxide Friends to talk about the inner workings of @bsky.app and the AT Protocol. From Scuttlebutt to Firehose and the ill-fated Scenes, lots of inside baseball!

Indigenous Maori MPs today responded in parliament to the right-wing ACT New Zealand party's proposal to just reinterpret a 184-years old treaty in order to usurp even more of the indigenous people's rights.

I usually don't post about work-related stuff except for ranting or asking technical questions, but this time I'll make an exception:

Today, Dash0 went out of beta and I am very proud to be part of the magnificent team making this #OpenTelemetry Native #Observability solution possible. 😀

If you’re looking for an observability solution, such as #Grafana, #ElasticStack, #NewRelic, #Datadog or #SigNoz, then give it a spin!

The story of PostNL's journey to serverless engineering is now free to read.

I wrote the PostNL case study for Sheen Brisals' and Luke Hedger's awesome Serverless Development on AWS book last year. I am super happy to announce it's now available on the PostNL Engineering Blog.

Tesla Cyber Truck is the new Hummer.

Seeing one on the road, you know instantly that the guy driving it is an insufferable douche.

In building Omicron, the control plane at Oxide, we took inspiration from Caitie McCaffrey's resurrection of an old database idea, sagas, as long-lived distributed transactions. On Monday, @ahl and I we will be joined by Oxide engineers @dap and @mycoliza to retell our own saga with sagas in Omicron: why we used it as an abstraction, some of the limitations we encountered, how we addressed those limitations, and where we find use for it today. Join us, 5p Pacific!
