Haven’t posted in a while. I wonder how the mastodon community is doing after the initial flee Twitter mania. Is the community still active?

Amazing #science. Though just an early breakthrough experiment, it puts us one step closer to harnessing the power of the sun in our grasp.

@Skipper49 you can disagree, but you are wrong about the majority of the base. There are so many reasons why people supported Trump. A lot of nuance and history that honestly would take more time than I want to spend on social media this Saturday. I don’t know where you are from or your experience with rural conservatives, but the VAST majority are not the people you are describing.

2022-12-17

@Skipper49 if you think the photo on the left is representative of the majority of Trump supporters, then you are out of touch with reality. Your reality is skewed by social media. I am born and raised in rural Kentucky, in counties where Trump won by margins like 95% to 5%. I know these people, at least in this area. These aren’t the people you are describing.

@TheOvernight I am migrating and I am conservative

2022-12-17

@RTFlynn I agree, but the only reason I see it’s worth the effort is because social media discourse has become IRL political discourse. It has changed who we are even in real life. I don’t think we can just let it be to continue to spiral out of control because it’s ruining society.

2022-12-17

@JesseF8693 I agree, unfortunately, the rest of social media does not

2022-12-17

I hate that every political discussion on social media just ends with those who are #liberal calling all #conservatives racist/facist, and all #conservatives calling #liberals communists. There is no reasonable political discourse anymore. Everything is polarized.

2022-12-17

@Skipper49 this is a common broad brush stereotype of Trump supporters. Are there people in the Trump base who hold to racist views? Yes but very few are overtly racist. That’s not an excuse for those people, they should be called out. But there are a lot of nuances behind the groups of people who support Trump. I know, I live among them. The vast majority are not racist/facist. That’s just the same old ad hominem attack you do hen arguing politics. Just like if I called all liberals communists.

@Bahstonmama :boomer_laugh: yeah I am not a fan of double spacing after sentences either… Also team Oxford comma. Other than that, I have no other opinions on grammar. As I am terrible at grammar and spelling. Much rather do math and programming write in symbols all day.

@Skipper49 Trump no doubt has damaged the Republican Party. He also has oddly reshaped it in some weird ways, more bad than good, but he did pull some blue collar democrats into the party. But actually there are rumblings of a revolt against Trump in the GOP. Many are tired of him. The midterm results in regards to Trump were not good. As Trump has repeatedly shown he cares nothing for conservatives or conservative ideas, but only himself. Lot of support moving to DeSantis (not my pick).

2022-12-17

@Bahstonmama hey thanks for the tip. I just realized I haven’t been using them. I guess I have been a little conditioned from Twitter where it go to the point hashtags didn’t matter because it was so nebulous and people already had their streams of followers.

The meltdown of #twitter is amazing. It feels to me like it’s becoming a mad max wasteland. Hot takes are abound as many paint #ElonMusk as a right wing extremist. I don’t think so. I think Musk is basically the same thing Trump is, a spoiled child who is ultimately about himself. Musk is about the right because they are about him at this point in time. But like Trump, he would drop them in a second when it suits him. I wish my fellow conservatives could see this.

2022-12-17

So I feel like I am going to be in a rare group of conservatives who is concerned with the direction of Twitter and have started migrating here. But I sure would like to sync up with other conservatives here if there are any. Granted I am not looking for an echo chamber, I follow and welcome followers from various backgrounds. But I would like to follow people who like to discuss the future of the Republican Party, conservative ideals, etc.

@SpockResists still learning the ropes and looking to follow and gain followers. My desire is for genuine interactions.
