πββοΈ I appreciate the news out of Scotland of a bagpipe player drowning out annoying sounds. But have you considered the advantages of THREE bagpipe players? And a louder song?

π£ βThey have a term, βgrocery.β Itβs an old term, but it means basically what youβre buying: food. Itβs a pretty accurate term, but itβs an old-fashioned sound, but groceries are down.β
Today Melissa Lewis over on BlueSky pointed out that the font used in the infamous "You wouldn't steal a car" anti-piracy campaign was actually designed by Just van Rossum, whose brother, Guido, created the Python programming language (bsky.app/profile/melissa.news/post/3ln7hx5rhcj2v)
She also pointed out that the font had been cloned and released illegally for free under the name "XBAND Rough". Naturally, it would be hilarious if the anti-piracy campaign actually turned out to have used this pirated font, so I went sleuthing and quickly found a PDF from the campaign site with the font embedded (web.archive.org/web/20051223202935/http://www.piracyisacrime.com:80/press/pdfs/150605_8PP_brochure.pdf).
So I chucked it into FontForge and yep, turns out the campaign used a pirated font the entire time!
This story from Nashville gave me hope this week
Historically we have not felt the need to boost legacy publications even when they on occasion publish writers who share our radical affinities.
The Guardian doesn't need our help. But this article by Naomi Klein and Astra Taylor needs your attention!
It synthesizes a lot of the best analysis of our urgent predicament that we have seen, and finishes with a comprehensive call to action.

128 mayors & city councillors across Canada suggest redirecting billions of dollars in fossil fuel subsidies and increasing taxes on big polluters to create jobs for local climate solutions, rather than focus on building more pipelines as proposed by Poilievre and Carney. #cdnpoli

Disabled people have been warning for years that the pandemic response (or lack thereof) was going to lead to fascism.
We begged you to wear a mask. To fight for clean air. To refuse to toss βthe vulnerableβ aside just because you wanted to go βback to normalβ.
We are one of the first groups targeted by fascist regimes. We fight for survival every single day under a capitalist system that assigns value based solely on economic contribution.
Include us in resistance efforts. We can help. We are survivors.
