Since #TSA at SFO wanted proof of airplane approval (I asked for it, but at least Lufthansa doesn’t have a workflow) and called a Homeland Security Explosive Specialist for further inspection:

Does anyone know how to best carry larger 101-160Wh batteries on airplanes?
I placed a printout of faa.gov/hazmat/packsafe/resour under the battery.

End result was disassembling the 12Ah hard-case into 2x6Ah (less protected) batteries that are below the 100Wh threshold.

Hmmmm … das sieht alles sehr optimistisch aus auf der Webseite. Eine Suite aus zusammengeschraubten OSS Scannern, ein bisschen Compliance drüber. K.a. sieht erstmal nach Security by Compliance aus. Aber nein, zusammengearbeitet habe ich mit denen noch nicht und kenne auch niemanden.

@scott as a service to the community.

2025-05-06

@scott not sure. I know they’re not docker experts. So maybe it’s nothing.

I have qsl.tools. I’m planning to use that for an open api (bandplans, dxcc, contests(?), space weather and so on to use inside other apps. Basically a playground for me to finally learn Golang.

But I’ve heard a lot of people wanting their own Wavelog instance, so I guess if we figured out the stack/progress, it can be hosted there as well. Free of charge. Maybe donation based.

2025-05-06

@scott yeah that’s true. But I’m thinking ahead: Automated Wavelog deployment for new instances based on config (that can be created automatically using a website. Think self signup for free hosting). But I guess there’s more that needs to be changed/accessible such as the config.php for qrz and other services. And I don’t want to burden a user with filling out database info in the setup, since they would not know.

2025-05-06

@scott but I know the Wavelog devs and maybe they’ll help.

2025-05-06

@scott I was in the progress of writing a helmchart (because on my cluster(s) flux takes care of updating the workloads automatically, so ideally I poll the Wavelog repo for new releases, generate a new helm release and my clusters Wavelog is up to date.

At this point I saw that Wavelog needs this setup Wizzard and stopped there. My non existing PHP skills stopped me from creating a PR that would allow env to be passed into the container.

@scott mind sharing your code? That’s my next project. ;)

Was looking into automating the setup/use a configmap for it. Any luck there?

@AF0AJ @stu also lessons learned: RTFM! ;) However you may not understand everything. And that’s normal. You always can ask someone. Hell if you want, I’ll go trough that stuff with you in a pair programming session, if you’d like. Let’s fix it on your system, make it run. You’ll learn a thing or two. Or we do it on a fresh system. Up to you. But in order to help I need to see what you see. ;)

2025-05-04

@AF0AJ @stu well infrastructure/ops/devops stuff is hard. You’re dipping your toes into something that’s a little more advanced than just uploading some PHP code onto a pre configured Webserver.

By no means you’re doing stuff that’s better left to professionals, but you’re dipping your toes into it. And that’s a good thing. Never stop learning! I can only encourage you to keep on that road. It may be frustrating at first, but if you get it, it’s a great achievement.

@cg die Frage stelle ich mir auch immer wieder. ;)

@mhoye we still need people who care about their code, take pride in their implementation and the desire to push things forward. This doesn’t work with Vibe Coding.

If the implementation does not require effort the quality lacks because it’s no effort/accomplishment to build something, people will not care.

Augmenting the engineering with LLMs? Sure. But the engineering still needs to happen.

Would you board a plane that’s has flight control written by a lazy vibe coder?

@dc1tc yeah yeah yeah!!!!

;) Habe 2 besorgt.
