Flathub isn't just a store—it's a paradigm shift in how Linux apps are distributed.
At #LAS2025, Jordan Petridis lays out why Flathub matters for devs, users, and the future of the Linux desktop.

This is a great article. Not sure how much I agree or how much it’s “correct”, but it has given me a lot of things to think about, both about other people and myself.
This bit hit home about me:
“A person closed to the possibility of delight finds less of it. A person open to it finds more.”
I often need to be “more open to delight”.

I want to reiterate what I said in Berlin earlier this year: Outreachy is facing an existential threat as organizations are now distancing themselves from programs like ours.
Our June 2025 cohort is the first one in years where we couldn’t fulfill all funding requests from our mentoring organizations. We had to make incredibly difficult decisions this time around because we don’t have enough funds to support all requests.

Capitalism didn't give us the internet.
Large-scale cooperation, open protocols, and free software gave us the internet. Capitalism gave us mobile sites that don't work because fifteen ads cover the screen.
Hi everyone on #Fosstodon and the #Fediverse. 👋
I've posted a statement on our hub about the events of the past weeks and how we intend on doing better:
https://hub.fosstodon.org/fosstodon-community-statement
Tldr: Sorry about what happened, Fosstodon is committed to being a safe and inclusive space, and we're taking measures to ensure this won't happen again.
Please let me know what you think!
As computer keyboards get smaller and smaller, I can't help thinking, that eventually we'll reach a point of no return
The Keynote Will NOT Go Forward
https://libregraphicsmeeting.org/2025/news/2025-05-07_0001-keynote-will-not-go-forward/
Due to concerns from the LGM community, the planned keynote with Dr. Richard Stallman is cancelled.
The announcement made many people angry and upset, and anger and division are not what LGM is about. Public debate was one of the factors that led to this decision. The discussion can be read here: https://post.lurk.org/@lgm/114462101041791903
---
[EDIT/NOTE] The following sentence mentioning our Code of Conduct in this announcement could be interpreted as suggesting we believe Richard Stallman’s presence would make the event less safe. That interpretation is not our intention; we don’t think that way. We don’t all think that Stallman’s talk would have been a problem. Some of us wanted to hear him. The context of the discussion linked above is important to correctly interpret this announcement and the reasons that led to it. Some people voiced general discomfort about the LGM in the debate; we take these concerns seriously.

LGM is committed to being an inclusive and safe venue for members of the Libre Graphics community, and we stand by the commitments to safety outlined
by our Code of Conduct. https://libregraphicsmeeting.org/2025/code-of-conduct
Personal Note of the Organizer:
I’ll be welcoming everyone seeking a conversation with me about the topic.

This is a gruelling summary of all the things wrong with OpenSSL https://www.haproxy.com/blog/state-of-ssl-stacks I've mostly watched this whole thing from the sidelines, but was also affected noting that private key parsing suddenly became 70 times slower. I think they've now improved it to "only" be 10-20 times slower, and there does not seem any effort to work on it any more.
writing man pages is so useful to check if your interface actually makes sense from a user perspective.
writing specifications for protocols is similarly essential for understanding and revising overlooked details, misplaced assumptions and plain embarrassing decisions made during development.
i'm currently writing man/specs for klutshnik but had the same epiphany also during other projects.
if you don't write docs, you rob yourself of a very powerful and simple review technique.
