⚡ Grundlast war gestern
Moderne Stromsysteme brauchen keine Grundlast -Kraftwerke. Flexibilität, Speicher und Lastmanagement sichern die Versorgung – nicht starre Dauerläufer. Guter 👇 @CellPressNews

@Pepijn The word is ancient. Clearly the vikings, or the people who came before them, had a broader definition than the newer geomorphological one of deep glacier-carved structures. Viking towns are at the bottom of fjords, as it made them easier to defend. Newer towns such as Copenhagen, Aarhus and Esbjerg are on accessible coasts ideal for trade and large harbours.

@Pepijn I wonder if the Greek also have these issues, when their words are appropriated for academic purposes :blobcatthinkowo:

@Pepijn It is a fjord. Fjord is a Danish word meaning long narrow bay. Vejle Fjord is a long narrow bay.

@IceClimate This cover uses a mobile phone (FP4) image. So that should not be a problem.

@Pepijn @IceClimate The WOW project really should be expanded globally. Other private weather station data belong to commercial actors, and are not generally available.

@Pepijn @IceClimate Since the last two years, we actually run a common model domain with KNMI.
They use data from the WOW project (initially started by the UK Met Office). Unfortunately, we don't have these in Denmark, and unfortunately this is only planned to last to 2026.

@Pepijn That is how I understand the experts, e.g. Laura Mack and Marvin Kähnert, whose scientific papers I referenced. With nowcasting techniques, for instance for road forecasting, we can do better, however.

@Pepijn Swampy areas are important. We do account for these with 100m scale mapping data.
The issue here is that we model the temperature at discrete heights above the surface, e.g. 0 and 12 metres. When the general wind dies down in cold clear sky conditions, the vertical temperature gradient can be very difficult to get right. Then the interpolation to 2 metres height is also challenged.

As someone who often conducts fieldwork in remote places, I find it really irritating that many applications now require an internet connection to function.

A pop-up window from Adobe Acrobat indicating that it cannot verify subscription status. It suggests checking the internet connection and provides options to "Quit Adobe Acrobat" or "Try Again." An error code (12014) is displayed along with a link to a for troubleshooting.
