Fantastic news! We've reached 1 million votes! But please keep sharing and voting in case some votes are invalid!

EU citizens, please sign this petition to ban so-called "conversion therapy" in the EU. It's a practice that's extremely harmful towards LGBTQ+ people.

The site is a little slow, but keep trying!

It's already banned in some countries but we need a EU wide ban!

We now have eight countries past their thresholds, and we have at least 1,000,000 total votes.

So keep signing & voting!

@b0rk On a terminal you could also just press the scroll-lock button, but I don't think that works remotely, while control-S does. I guess I mostly use control-Z instead if I don't expect that much output and didn't redirect it somewhere.

@bagder @icing Do you have an idea of when that will end up in a release?

I boosted several posts about this already, but since people keep asking if I've seen it....

MITRE has announced that its funding for the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) program and related programs, including the Common Weakness Enumeration Program, will expire on April 16. The CVE database is critical for anyone doing vulnerability management or security research, and for a whole lot of other uses. There isn't really anyone else left who does this, and it's typically been work that is paid for and supported by the US government, which is a major consumer of this information, btw.

I reached out to MITRE, and they confirmed it is for real. Here is the contract, which is through the Department of Homeland Security, and has been renewed annually on the 16th or 17th of April.

MITRE's CVE database is likely going offline tomorrow. They have told me that for now, historical CVE records will be available at GitHub, github.com/CVEProject

Yosry Barsoum, vice president and director at MITRE's Center for Securing the Homeland, said:

“On Wednesday, April 16, 2025, funding for MITRE to develop, operate, and modernize the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE®) Program and related programs, such as the Common Weakness Enumeration (CWE™) Program, will expire. The government continues to make considerable efforts to support MITRE’s role in the program and MITRE remains committed to CVE as a global resource.”

FOR A SAFER WORLD"
April 15, 2025
Dear CVE Board Member,
We want to make you aware of an important potential issue with MITRE’s enduring
support to CVE.
On Wednesday, April 16, 2025, the current contracting pathway for MITRE to develop,
operate, and modernize CVE and several other related programs, such as CWE, wil
expire. The government continues to make considerable efforts to continue MITRE’
role in support of the program
If a break in service were to occur, we anticipate multiple impacts to CVE, including
deterioration of national vulnerability databases and advisories, tool vendors, incident
response operations, and all manner of critical infrastructure.
MITRE continues to be committed to CVE as a global resource. We thank you as a
member of the CVE Board for your continued partnership.
Sincerely,
Yosry Barsoum

@ahf We intend to ship #OpenSSL 3.5 in #Debian. It's currently in experimental, and CI tests look good.

@jwildeboer @samuel Can you clarify why for encryption it's a step backwards? As far as I know they both use a double ratchet algorithm.

@noodles Aren't you missing security updates because you run an older version?

I don't know about all the components, but I at least get a regular kernel update.

2025-01-21

@noodles just run it in a VM?

@matthew_d_green doing archery, some of the screws on my bow are in metric, some in imperial. The height of the bow is in inches, the draw force is in pounds, the weight of the arrow point is in grains, but the distance to the target is in meters, and the target size is in cm.

@juliank my best guess is that I had 9 ratings of which 2 where a 4.

2024-08-04

@juliank Mine says 4.22, which seems to be really bad according to what I read. I have no idea why it's so low.

@postmodern x509 version 1 and 2 do not support extensions. They were only added in version 3. Note that version 1 is encoded as a 0 in the file, 2 as 1, and 3 as 2.

@ehashman If it's high for a short time it's not considered a health problem. So for short periods of time the limits are higher. The AQI is really about the current quality, not the average quality.

I'm building a new house, and the air quality is important to me. I've had them add additional filters in the ventilation system, plan to monitor all rooms, and hope to reach the long-term limits all the time indoors, while outdoors almost never reaches them.

2023-09-12

@ehashman Using the WHO limits to calculate that AQI:
O3: 100 ug/m3: 51 ppb, AQI: 47
PM2.5: 15 ug/m3, AQI: 57
PM10: 45 ug/m3, AQI: 42
CO: 4 mg/m3, 3.3 ppm, AQI: 38
SO2: 40 ug/m3, 15 ppb, AQI: 20
NO2: 25 ug/m3, 13 ppb, AQI: 13

So when staying withing the WHO limits, it can show you 57. For some it's close to the WHO limits, for others like NO2 the limits are now off. The limit used to be 120 but is now 25 ug/m3.

Note that not all of the limits are for the same time window, WHO only has 24 hours and longer limits, while that AQI has some for 1 and 8 hours.
