The history of Earth as the length of a human’s outstretched arm - representing 4.5 billion years of time.
At this scale, humans emerged so recently that we could be filed off from a microscopic slice at the very tip of a fingernail.
@Viss complacent, lazy and stupid folks are the way they are regardless of convenience.
Looks like @viticci has found his next project. https://infosec.exchange/@catsalad/113180788769485496
NEW: Platformer has obtained the dehumanizing new guidelines moderating what people can now say about trans people on Facebook and Instagram. Employees tell me these changes are likely to inspire more violence against LGBT people: https://www.platformer.news/meta-new-trans-guidelines-hate-speech/

I just hope that Trump’s ineptitude as a strategic leader will prevent some of the worst of his policies from being implemented.
But with conservative control of all three branches maybe he would only have to coast on the work of others.
There are lots of ways to search for things on Mastodon. It's not just hashtags any more!
You can now search for ordinary words and phrases, and there are special extra options for narrowing down your results by dates, languages, accounts etc.
Lots more info about how to search on Mastodon at:

For those that don't know, I help run a giant women in technology slack group (more than 10,000 members!)
It's not just open to software and computer folks, however much that's the main group.
If you're a woman in biotech, in industrial science, in manufacturing or engineering, any technical field or technical line of business, you're welcome to join. It's very big tent about 'tech' and 'woman' both.
HMU for an invite

"Our analysis of a selection of questionable GPT-fabricated scientific papers found in Google Scholar shows that many are about applied, often controversial topics susceptible to disinformation: the environment, health, and computing. The resulting enhanced potential for malicious manipulation of society’s evidence base, particularly in politically divisive domains, is a growing concern."
@ukuku That might be in preparation for the less expensive model they announced a while ago.
@RecDiffs @siracusa @hotdogsladies Just had my own secret weird thing moment listening to the separate blanket discussion.
I didn’t realize people are meant to sleep under the flat sheet. My spouse and I would always put on the fitted sheet, then the flat sheet and slept on top of it covered by a blanket or duvet.
At hotels I’ve seen a sheet grouped with blankets but I never made the connection that it was the flat sheet we slept on top of at home.

“What was I thinking being on a ticket with a weird creepy dude?”
It's a shame that so much journalism is gone overnight. I wouldn't say it's the company's obligation to keep the servers running but that is what institutions like the Library of Congress or the Internet Archive are there for, to preserve our culture.
