@starbreaker I've seen the latest beta for Thunderbird (115 if I recall correctly) and noticed a huge change in design. Yet, it has things that trigger me.

Mailmate seems cool, with nice features and all (markdown, also). However, I cringe at the idea of paying $60 for an email client, especially now.

Does anyone use Mailmate on #macOS? #askFedi

@starbreaker thanks. I'll think about it.

@starbreaker thanks, sounds appealing. Is there a how-to for migrating from Mastodon? I hadn't noticed one on Friendica, but I only skimmed their help pages so far.

@machias maybe it's because I'm approaching my mid 50s, but I definitely get what you mean.

@chris I'm not sure if it's something that naturally comes as we age but I've been feeling the same for a while now. Not that I think too much of birthdays anyway...

Talking about 1st-world problems, now that I'm back (for now) from the UK, it's time to think about switching instance. I've been mulling over two musicians-tailored nice instances, however, I just realised that I'm not forced to stay here.

Either Frendica or Diaspora could serve me well, they're part of the Fediverse, they both use ActivityPub as far as I know, so what's the point of being stuck with Mastodon?

@starbreaker since you recently made that switch, how do you feel about Friendica?

@lkhrs also, the capital 'G' of Seravek slightly irritates me because it reminds of the same in Montserrat.

@lkhrs can't stand it. Never could.

@chris I agree, and in fact I almost went all in with the indieweb implementation. I stopped when I realised the tech barrier was basically involuntarily creating a walled garden of sort. Not that all walled gardens are intrinsically bad, but it's not my thing.

I want to reach out to interesting people, outside of any corporate site, and there's email for that, there's always been.

You know what, don’t @ me if you‘re going to defend Facebook joining the fediverse or whatnot. Seriously, I’m not here to debate you. I’m sick and tired of pointing out the obvious. Do what you like. There’s a reason I’m building something that’s actually decentralised. It would just be nice to have the stopgap in place long enough to serve as a bridge.

Oh, and if the largest servers don’t end up blocking Facebook/Meta, a boycott will not work.

I’ve said my piece.

Over and out.

Furthermore, I'd like to leave the tech structure that allows webmentions, so that I can comment on certain WordPress sites without using the (to me) pointless WP comment system. I'd tried a few times and enjoyed the dynamic.

@chris yes, until I realised I was using them to interact with people that I already interact with elsewhere (email, Mastodon). I very rarely received mentions from 'outside', and I would say, a substantial portion of people using webmentions are part of a specific dev circle.

What about the 'other ones'? I have their email address, so I fail to see the point now. But I'm happy to leave the working structure intact, so that I can still send and receive mentions in certain cases.

I feel like it's time to ditch #webmentions from my website. The ratio for spam to real mentions has taken a steep turn towards the former.

This also offers a chance to wipe out any Javascript from the website, which is incredibly tempting.

I’ve had a personal blog for nearly 22 years. For at least 15 of those years it’s ridden on Wordpress, but that platform really seems to be going sideways in the bloat department. I want to move it to something like Hugo, but 22 years of data seems like a HUGE migration risk. I’ve web searched the process with tepid results. Anyone have any pointers moving over two decades of Wordpress content to Hugo? Any other platform suggestions?
