Big hugs to the people who added Boot Environments and the “only use on one boot”-setting to #freebsd

I did a lot of things wrong on the 14.3 upgrade and as a result couldn’t login as a user anymore. I really screwed it up. :D

One reboot later I was back in a running system and could just redo the upgrade. Amazing stuff.

@Madic I bet they do, but I don’t know where to find the setting. It’s not in the gui (I think) and I don’t know in which config file it could be. :)

Die haben mir vor einem Jahr nen Mac gegeben. Damit war ich auch zufrieden. Und jetzt kommt halt MDM dazu. Zeiten ändern sich.

Konzern rollt MDM auf den Macs aus und installiert natürlich erstmal Microsoft Edge und den Adobe Reader. m(

Von den unzähligen Virenscannern und DPI-Crap will ich garnicht erst anfangen. Kein Wunder, dass die Kiste so lahm ist.

Ich bin zu alt für sowas.

The two things I miss the most on linux compared to macos:

1. Consistency using the Super/Windows-Key for tasks that are not application specific. Copy/paste, closing windows, closing applications. Something that works consistently.
I don't want to configure every application to make use of this key.

Gnome seems to be on the right path here, but I bet it's still a long way to go.

2. MacOS does OCR on everything. If I open an image in Safari, I can just copy paste the text. Same in Preview or messages. I really miss this feature.

It's is also a good choice as a rescue system. I didn't do the bootcode update on the 14.0 upgrade and mfsbsd helped me get my hetzner server back to life. :)

I think I found the reason why my MacBook Air m1 has performance issues.

I have two Gigabyte M28U 4k displays in different locations. The performance issues only happens in one location. Both use the same cheap USB-C cable.

One of the cables is three meters long and the other is only two meters long.

The longer cable can only handle 60Hz; the shorter one can handle 144Hz. Obviously I configured it to use 144Hz and it does so very well most of the time. 😅

I'll change it to 120Hz. Maybe it helps a bit and saves me 2-3k euros for a new notebook. :)
