@midnightspire Thanks!!
A cozy pixelart action-adventure in the style of classic handheld games!

@midnightspire Thanks!!
@IvanDSM Thank you! It doesn't instantly appear at the next button but it still goes pretty fast. ^^
For reference, here's what it looked like in August (bleh) and December (meh). Kinda empty and not as lively.
I've overhauled the System Menu for #MayGame. The options are now laid out in a grid and have character animations when active. The Map and Items menus are accessible as tabs, too.
Animations need fine-tuning but otherwise pretty happy with this.
Happy New Year everyone! 🎉
The first Developer Diary for "May and the Amazing Bouquet" is live on Steam! I talk about development in 2025, what's coming in 2026, and the game's current wishlist numbers!

There will naturally be (bee?) lots of flower and bee idioms in the names here, haha. 😁
And maybe (may bee?) some science fiction references too (YES IT'S OUT OF PLACE IN A COZY GAME BUT WHO'S GOING TO STOP ME?) :D
You can press the button to reveal exactly what to do. Or keep it hidden and try to figure it out based on the name as a hint.
I've seen some indie games with a built-in achievement-tracking screen and decided to make one too.
Not every gaming platform has an achievements system, so this would make sure everyone could experience it.
@idiomatic You may also be interested in this plugin, which automatically handles icon switching using a similar method and has graphics for everything. I see it recommended a lot.
https://github.com/rsubtil/controller_icons
I opted not to use it because these icons don't look too great when reduced to a 16x16 size. 😅
@idiomatic Me too! Fortunately, SDL3 seems to be attempting to standardize it (SDL_GamepadType), so it should be much easier to detect for games going forward.
The Godot engine hasn't yet made that part of SDL availably to query, but they're working on it. https://github.com/godotengine/godot/pull/112680
My own solution checks for common strings (xbox, ps5, etc) in the gamepad name, which isn't too reliable, but hopefully good enough for most cases.
Input customization options are now fully functional in my indie game! Let me show you!

@mxashlynn Thank you! I'm going for a Game Boy Color-ish vibe! 🙂
The save file screen for #MayGame is now fully functional.
Composed a small song for it and also several sfx using Furnace.
May's sprite will change depending where you are in the game.
The pause/options menus have gotten a visual overhaul! Added icons and reused the style of the map screen.
Still not 100% satisfied but this feels much better than the plain black and white windows.

The blue cricket shown in earlier clips will accompany May for a while! If you look closely at the start, you can see him perched on May's head. ^^
He is TIIIIINY. May can send him into cricket-sized tunnel mazes to help unlock new areas.
Like the games it's inspired by (Zelda:LA, For the Frog the Bell Tolls), I'd like to have some brief side-scrolling passages in this top-down game.
May's sprites, jump height, and gravity are the same as the top-down areas. So it should feel familiar.
Some cutscenes in this game may play out differently depending on your actions. Like, say, if you're in midair when someone tells you to freeze.
(Do NOT tell someone to freeze when they're in midair.)

May encounters a small crying creature. 🦗
And...it does NOT go well. 🤦♀️
The first part of this scene was posted a while back, now here's the rest of it!
