Hi. My name is Mike Burr. I am the physical form in possession of this identity. How do you doooo?

@azcoigreach To me it's always been more #idiocracy although it might literally be a different reading of the same thing, "in practice".

Both are so dumb. Gotta keep it kayfabe.

Like, there's dark malevolent and definitely scary things all performed by clowns, and nonetheless effecting the actual real world.

And no one points out the clowns.

#fep #ap #idea -- call your endpoints "the mastodons" or "fedi" or whatever you like, but what determines your interactions is completely abstracted into a "contract" describing your preferences/requirements for interacting with any user on any instance. Or with "whole instances".

You're a free agent; with formal data exchange specs, and so is everyone else, as-enforced by instance and/or user client software.

With a "recommended json file" or minimum default for starters.

#showerthought #fep #ap -- make "character count" enforceable by the endpoints' preference, as a convention or "formally".

i.e. if you, as a reader, have your #MTU (minimum talking unit, j/k lol) set to 1500 characters, longer messages than that will be invisible to you.

A _sender_ (like me, right now) can set (advertise) their MTU:

I write long posts -> 9000
haiku and terser -> 500
bin_puzls -> 64

I wonder if one day, say in a few years, we'll be able to meet our #socialmedia "recommends" #bots ...

For example, one day you might ask your #YouTube #AI, ashamedly, "Like, what did you _think_ of me back then??"

I agree with you. Believe it or not I was mocking my mother because she would say this.

I don't think she believed or didn't believe it but rather knew that it was a thing to say to that often had the effect of scoring her a point, apparently, at least to herself.

@unikitty

Another great thing about it is it requires interpretation.

Poverty wasn't on my mind at the time.

I update my definition of "actual good" to include not being bigoted yourself in the process.

To me ridicule and mockery are great tools to fight racism. They work pretty good.

There's a lot of unintentional self-mockery: hold up a particular flag -- say something stupid.

Racism is bad, mockery of racism is a legitimate good (imho).

I am from that "culture" [quite a word to use here]. When you know literally nothing else from birth it can take quite a struggle to SEE it.

Some good mockery exposes the stupid to the light.

Mom always said hate the sin not the sinner.

@mburr a couple of chapters in this book are quite good sociological commentaries on what it's like to be a younger woman nowadays...

I am your friend now. Take that!

[not accusing you] This would be a great way to troll for rando followers. "Hey, y'all. Remember me?! I lost my account, but it's the same me I swear! Follow me for more fun."

I might want a separate account for TOTALLY rando.

Is there a #book that an oldish person might enjoy #reading to get up to speed on "contemporary #culture"?

...To really understand all the #yeet s and #rizz es (inb4 whippersnapper)

Some recent history and context is nice for enjoyment purposes (goal number one).

But it would also be nice if it was _contemporary_; "Recent" is acceptable.

No strong preference regarding dry vs... #fiction.

I was born in `72 for context purposes [only].

I tried to copy the text "stop, collaborate and listen" from a web site and I *couldn't*.

Like, there was actual javascript designed to prevent me form doing so!

if you take a slice of the torus down the middle, you have two disks. These can be modeled accurately as two points. That seems to eliminate one kind of "symmetry" from the question.

But if you take less neat slices of the torus, you have some weird shapes...squished ellipses, etc.

Seems like something an eager #calculus student could reason out. (I'm sure it's in the book too of course)

Suppose I wanted to model a solid, uniform-density torus in 3d space under gravity.

Just as a point models a sphere, I wonder if a "line mass" models a torus. (i.e. a massive annulus)

From "far away" you can model a torus with a point mass at its center. But if you're "near", I don't think that's the case. (?)

Can a line in space "exactly" (a la sphere vs point) model a torus under gravity?

Guess: yes, with a line mass that is the ring of its major radius.

#Occam dropped his razor. "Aw, fuck!" he said. "I'd better find that or one of my kids with cut their foot. Or worse, ME!"

"Is it on the other side of the universe?" he wondered.

"Is it underneath that large rock?" He didn't look there of course.

"Here it is! Directly beneath where I dropped it laying flat on a clean patch of floor."

"Whew" he said. "It was in the last place I looked."
