The things i had let pass by me as hype, are more mandatory, and the things i had specialised have become completely nieche. and while I've done a ton of programming in the past seven odd years, it's far from enough to actually qualify as software engineer. (maybe as apprentice or junior engineer)

so, yeah, it kinda depends on the specific field…
