@PhilBarrett@fosstodon.org @fields @clouds_go_by @Lomelindi12 When is a #hillfort not a hillfort - when it’s a … One I’d like to add to our site database. Could we add your photo? (and LIDAR?) With a credit of course. #HillfortsWednesday
PS #SettlementSaturday sounds good to me.

@clouds_go_by @Lomelindi12 @PhilBarrett I've been staying out of it for years, watching with interest from a safe distance but... If I dare just drag you into just one more I AmAnita, I give you: Banks Wood #HillfortsWednesday

an old fav the often forgotten battledown 'camp' in the middle of Cheltenham
it's on private land so google images it is.
My first and likely only #HillFortsWednesday post. in 2012 I helped supervise the Cranfield University #archaeology fieldschool at Fin Cop #IronAge hillfort in Derbyshire, #UK. Really beautiful location! We focused on excavating a section of the defensive ditch, which contained the partially articulated skeletal remains of several individuals. You can read about it here, if you're into this sort of thing: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/00665983.2012.11020914

The burial chamber at Pentre Ifan in Pembrokeshire.
Amazing views from up there - obvious why it was chosen as a site. I recommend parking further down the hill and walking up the valley to get here to get a proper impression of how it sits in the landscape.
Here, Mastodon…have some Bronze Age #Dartmoor cairn & cist burial sites. Don’t say I never give you nuthink…
A visit to Four Knocks passage tomb in the Boyne Valley. The site is on private land, visits on appointment with a local farmer who will give you the key in exchange for a deposit. You then enter the tomb unaccompanied, I chose to close the door after me. A tremendously atmospheric experience.

Bruce wrote: "I would very much like to pass these albums on to someone who will appreciate them. I would rather not see these albums broken up and dispersed "

"This album is from a visit to #Callanish in November 2018, combined with some quick sketches from a visit in 2001. Weather was grim, #photography was confined to the end and start of the day when a little more light would slide through under the lowering rain clouds." 2/
Bruce Adams, one of our members, sadly died last month - he had motor neurone disease. He wrote: "Over the years I have assembled albums recording my visits to stone circles etc". I am currently looking after Bruce's albums and will share some highlights and a download link #StandingStoneSunday #megalithic #archaeology #stones #art #Scotland #TheDayOfThreads Thread 1/
Hello one and all,
In my other life I am one of a number of folk working hard for the preservation of #Pictish caves on the Fife coast.
We have recently had gates installed to preserve the fragile carvings and we are currently fundraising to help us fund a permanent site warden and making a Pictish garden for educational purposes. If you can, please help us:

Thank you :)

Looks like I missed a good #StandingStoneSunday , I had a big post on the other place and aren’t sure on large threads here yet. Personally though I like being able to post things with a # any day without being bound to the daily thing. So tomorrow…
@stokes @penforeman I don’t watch it any more but I used to work for McLaren Electronics in their Mercedes days. Watching with a piece of kit you’ve designed and proven built in to the car is quite a thing.
@iainl7 @muninnherself Wacky to see your original post from 2018 - I wish I’d joined here sooner. I’ve had a go at getting Kenny to join with this. https://mastodon.social/@mostaleoht@zirk.us/109315929724051913
@unfortunatalie Certainly do - https://www.megalithic.co.uk/shop/the_old_stones_megalithic_portal_book.htm
I only took 6 copies to London as was on train - I wish I’d had more. Anyway I’m happy to add a dedication as well, add a note to the order.
