Changeable weather at Broomend of Crichie complex near Inverurie for today's #StandingStoneSunday

A Neolithic henge (a circular earthwork with an external ditch) contains the remains of a stone circle. Two stones remain, the third is a carved Pictish symbol stone that was moved into the site later. There is also an avenue and various outlying stones.

The face of the stone has a series of Pictish symbols carved into it and a nearly vertical edge in the centre of the frame has a column of short horizontal markings wrapping round the two sides of a corner.

The intricately carved 21ft high Sueno's Stone, standing on the edge of Forres in Moray, is the largest and most spectacular of the many carved stones that have survived from the early medieval period in Scotland. We have had our annual monitoring day today, where we log and photograph the conditions of all of the assets in our care at the Wemyss coast.
Caves, paths (not the Fife Coastal Path) and carvings.
And the weather was mostly wonderful, although the most recent storms have made the paths pretty tricky to navigate in places.
