There's always time pressure, scammy warranties, and the like that make it an unpleasant experience.

Yesterday, the stars aligned for me to take a solo section hike on the #AppalachianTrail (trailhead @ 35.03524, -83.47016), and it was astonishingly beautiful.

When I arrived the weather was cool and rainy - it felt like I was in the #PNW, but absolutely perfect hiking weather.

The Blue Ridge Mountains were doing their thing, the greenery was extra green, and although it was busy-ish because of Memorial Day, there was still plenty of space for a quiet and contemplative hike.

It was a bit of a drive from #Atlanta, of course (2h 30m), so next time I may arrive the evening before for some car camping - especially as I'd like to explore more of the trail in NC.

"They" is "We". Did folks forget why we have elections? Maybe the connection between the people we elect and the policies we get has been completely severed in people's brains.

Or perhaps the constant right-wing messaging that convinces people to give up agency in their own lives to terrible politicians, charlatans, and televangelists has reached its peak nihilistic effectiveness.

@wesley I just saw there was another pedestrian fatality at Baker and Peachtree. I hope that sensible voices at the city are serious about bringing it back this time - how many more must die until that happens?

Streets Alive today (in #Atlanta) on the West Side had a fantastic vibe. [So much so, I forgot to take any pictures.]

For background, Streets Alive is Atlanta's car-free day on selected road corridors about once a month.

I was thinking...there are certain areas along the route, like Summerhill and through Georgia Ave, which could likely sustain an every Sunday during spring and summer event. That's probably cheaper than opening up a 4-mile stretch of road.

It would be so much fun to have that - maybe even sit on chairs in the road while enjoying beverages. Just like in other cities that already figured this out decades/centuries ago.

@ssatagop I was a bit ambivalent when Flock started showing up in Atlanta. At least in my neighborhood, when Bad Stuff (gun violence) happened from time-to-time, APD was able to use the Flock info to find the folks doing the Bad Stuff.

So, it seemed sensible as a APD-only-ish tool. But combing the data into another gross national database...ugh. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but so it goes these days.
