Possibly more importantly, in this era of the enshittification of the digital world, it’s clean. Everything is opt in, no dark patterns, no tracking, no data collection, no ads. They ask for an email address and a username. There is a pro level, but they don’t harass you to join it and there’s tons of content without it. Best of all, no AI.

This is what every app should be. It’s a joy to be able to just use an app and not have to lock everything down and opt out of a million things.

Whoever recommended the renshuu app for learning Japanese, sorry I’ve forgotten your username, but thank you so much for sharing!

This app is awesome in so many ways. Not only does it do a great job of teaching the language, but it makes it fun with games, a pet, and a little garden (which are all optional if you’re just interested in learning the language). The art style is cute too.

Sometimes the most important thing in crafting is knowing the difference between "can" and "should".

A yellow crochet cushion on a wooden rocking chair. The crochet is a big granny square. In the middle of the square is a plastic doll face, surrounded by a ruffle like the baby is wearing a bonnet. Under this, two crochet arms protrude from the cushion, each with a plastic doll hand attached.

@schwa I saw a clever solve to this problem (though I’ve yet to try it because I keep forgettingšŸ˜†). Get a box and label it ā€œsomewhere safeā€. That way every time you think to put something somewhere safe it’s the same place, that box. Maybe this time I’ll remember to do it.

My hot take for today. If your doctor prescribes you a medication it is the pharmacy’s job to fill it and the insurance company’s job to pay for it. That’s it.

All this cost cutting, prior authorization, etc is just capitalist garbage. The doctor prescribed the medication out of necessity, deal with it. If it’s too expensive, take that up with the drug companies. Patients shouldn’t have to suffer so pharmacies and insurance companies can make a bigger profit.

@sewblue Starting is hands down the hardest part.

If they wanted to,

Congress could impeach or invoke the 25th

The Supreme Court could reverse his policies

The media could report his lies and illegality accurately

U.S. billionaires and corporations could stop funding and bribing him

They don't want to. The problem isn't him. It's them.

@eyrea Murphy beds are making a comeback. I have 2 friends that have them in their home offices so it can double as a guest room. I slept on one when I went to visit one of the friends and it was more comfortable than a pull out couch.

@runamoto Following those hashtags is a great start. I’ve also found a fair amount of sewing following the #VisibleMending tag, though that isn’t always sewing.

@GottaLaff But I’m sure there are concepts of a plan.

Did you know that David Zinn's little creatures even make waffles using the things they find on the pavement? I feel like I'd enjoy one this Sunday morning šŸ§‡

@afreytes I’ve loved a lot of games over the years, but for visuals, World of Warcraft has had the most for me. That said, the first one that real hit me, and I still remember, was the Wrath Gate cinematic from the Wrath of the Lich King expansion.

This picture of the original Kirby team being asked to draw Kirby never fails to make me laugh

Six men in 2 rows of 3. Overlayed on each is a hand drawn picture of the character Kirby. Most of them look really artistic and well drawn, with perspective and shading. One of the men has a picture which looks sort of like a child drew it, showing Kirby sucking something in. It's not quite the right shape, but still charming in its own way. The men are all smiling / laughing. The photo highlights that this man is the programmer of the group.

It's not written, but the men are:

Top row, left to right:

Takao Shimizu, producer

Satoru Iwata, producer

Shigeru Miyamoto, producer

Bottom row, left to right:

Takashi Saitou, Character designer

Masahiro Sakurai, Director/Game designer

Hiroaki Suga, Lead programmer

@sewblue as a ā€˜retired’ ChemEng, you have me equal parts curious and horrified. There is some very nasty stuff out there that’s been kept under control by those standards. So tired of the scientifically illiterate thinking standards exist just for the sake of bureaucracy.
