In the #FirstWorldProblems department, when I use the Google Maps app on my phone, and choose the option for "set a departure or arrival time", shouldn't the default option be arrival time? I always forget that it defaults to *departure* time, and then I have to do it twice.

I understand that *sometimes* people want to know how long it'll take when they leave at time X, but isn't it WAY more common to have a desired *arrival* time?

Mutuals, Mastodonians, Fedizens, lend me your boosts; I come to bury Zuck, not praise him.

@EricAlper Del Amitri. (At least in the States.) Only really known for 2-3 charting songs, but their greatest hits album proves they are crazy good pop songwriters, and their Fatal Mistakes album is a masterpiece.

Wow, what a weekend! Carleton CHOP made it to the semis at DIII Nationals, losing to the eventual champion. They also took home the team's first ever Spirit Award, which means they didn't sacrifice their integrity in order to be competitive. I'm super proud of my kid and his teammates. #UltimateFrisbee

The #RTO nonsense continues at work. Because I'm taking a week off when it goes into effect, I won't have to drive in until like June 8 or something. But I'm still pissed at the *waste* of it all.

Taking a long weekend to watch my oldest compete at DIII Nationals in Washington. Watching high level #Ultimate brings me great joy, and boy do I need the break.

Take care of yourselves, Fedi Friends!

The image features a simple black and white stick figure on the left side, with a long neck, a cap, and a stick-like arm pointing towards a logo on the right. The stick figure has a sad expression, with a straight line for a mouth and two dots for eyes. The text above the figure reads, "C'mon, do a Resist Tyranny." The logo on the right is the emblem of the National Rifle Association, with a red background, a gold eagle, and crossed rifles. The text around the emblem reads "NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION" with the year "1871" at the bottom. The overall image is a meme that uses humor to comment on the NRA's stance on gun rights.

Waiting at the barber shop and listening to some poor schmuck drone on and on about maintaining *nuclear reactors*. Just super casual, like, "NBD, I did it in the Navy".

On the one hand, I'm like, omg wish this guy took it more seriously....on the other he sounds smart and calm so thank freaking gawd I guess?

Please spread the word on this.

Edit: From replies, it looks like this may not be active in Canada, but is in the US, Mexico, UK and several EU countries.

@defuneste already unionized... and they poked a fookin TIGER

In other news, I crossed 1500 hours in sick time. The governor has NO IDEA how frequently I'm willing to use that to avoid his forced #RTO bulls***.

Signs you might be #disaffected at work: you start a new timesheet for the pay period, and the first thing you do is enter in your anticipated PTO. Then you triple check your PTO balance, and start daydreaming about taking a month off. Maybe more.

@jerasikehorn.bsky.social if they're decent...they don't require anything to enjoy.

If they're not...steak sauce.

@earthtoneone I bet that WOULD help...the question will be if I can get motivated enough to do that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Thanks for the suggestion though!

@defuneste lol, that makes me think I'm going to need to write some code en Español. 😉

I like my workhorse jQuery.

One of the biggest mental blocks I have in #webDevelopment is asynchronous JS, which of course I have to work with all the time. I understand the *concept* of asynchronous just fine, it's making the code work in an understandable way that I struggle with. Especially the idea of a "Promise". Each time I have to Google it and then bash my code until it works.

In my recent effort, jQuery "when" has helped, as well as a basic chaining. But it's still kind of a mystery how I got it working.

More and more I'm just thinking I saw a lot of hand-drawn state and county maps during a recent exercise. Like this one.

Map of US states with various shades of purple. The state outlines have visible gaps, likely from hand-drawing.

1. Replace workers with AI.
2. Now instead of wages you pay a company for AI services.
3. Despite the likely decline in quality of the work, suppose you become dependent as a company on this service. Suppose you make it work.
4. AI is heavily subsidized by venture capital, its priced lower than the cost to provide the service to attract early adopters (and to lock companies like you in.)
5. Inevitably the AI bubble bursts, AI services jack up their prices.

How is paying rent better than wages?

Doesn't matter how much mustard you put on that sandwich with the end piece of bread. It's still gonna be dry AF. #DeepThoughts #SaturdayLunch

@jcarlson don't think it's either of those...but those are pretty sweet.
