@RustyRing afaik uncle Robin was never a Robert, though I'm going to check with my mum about that. He lived in Canada most of his adult life. Emigrated there after leaving the RAF.

@RustyRing I didn't know that's where Robin came from - I'm Scottish and I had an uncle Robin!
@patrickhadfield a classic. 🎶
Do I write like a man? (whatever that means). Do recruiters divine gender based on text, subconsciously or otherwise?
Tbf, I've not shared much info with ChatGPT, but now I'm thinking about it I'm sure it asked about my gender recently.
I asked ChatGPT what it knows about me. It said "a professional, detail-oriented cis male aged 40–60, based in the UK, with a preference for British English".
Moving on I asked it to assess a supporting statement I'd written for a job application.
As an afterthought I told it I'm a cis-woman, just FYI.
I did not expect it to rewrite my statement. When I asked why, it said it wanted to soften the language to "better represent my identity".
@davidtoddmccarty I did read the article before posting. It was a tongue in cheek comment. I thought adding an emoji would help convey that. I was wrong.
@davidtoddmccarty luckily H G Wells had first hand experience of time machines, Martian invasions, and the pitfalls of invisibility. 😉
Maybe giving my hairdresser nightmares is the reason my hair was a bit shorter than I wanted 😂
My hairdresser told me about an operation she'd had a decade ago, on her face, under general anesthetic. They had her wear paper pants for the op and in recovery she realised they were gone. I suggested it was because under GA most people lose control of their bowels.
Then I told her how in America it was common for student doctors to be allowed in to any kind of op to carry out pelvic exams on women WITHOUT THEIR CONSENT.
My poor hairdresser didn't need to know this!
I was at the hairdresser yesterday and she went a bit short for my liking, and I was feeling a wee bit self conscious. On the way to the coffee shop today a wee lassie came running out her close and along the street, she's about to pass me, she stops for a second and shouts "I really like your hair" and then runs on.
Made me smile.
@Free_Press correction, he doesn't say June 6 is "the day", it's "D-Day" - important distinction.
Truth Social has crashed from the traffic surge and in so doing accidentally created a hauntingly poignant image.

@scottishlass times like these I wish I had the discipline and vision to be self-employed.
In other news - I've had about 3 hours sleep, can you tell?
And while I'm ranting about job applications - when it comes to equal opportunities monitoring please note that "United Kingdom" is not a nationality, neither is any other country.
Tempted to word the cover letter: "Please read the form data you made me submit in the least efficient way possible..."
And the literal minute I'd registered for their bespoke online application portal they emailed me to ask me to complete my application before the closing date, which they neglected to include.
Do they ever do UAT for these things? Sometimes it feels like they deliberately add in additional hoops just to deter applicants.
Job application: I have to enter all my quals and experience into their online form. For quals there's a dropdown for country, a dropdown for every conceivable uni in the UK - not in alphabetical order, not searchable. I have to navigate this dropdown for each degree.
They want a start and end date including month for each qual & job.
Then there's the supporting statement.
Then I have to upload my CV (which contains all of the above) and a cover letter.
Completely fucking redundant.
FML!
